MOT tomorrow, decides the S2's fate

Have my MOT at 8.25am tomorrow. It will decide if the S2 will see much road for the next few months. If it passes I will re-tax at the end on Jan, if it fails on anything relating to the rear suspension (which is quite likely looking at the state of it ) it will be taken off the road for the suspension to be stripped and rebuilt with poly bushes and a general overhaul.

It will get done in the end anyway but with the current weather I'd prefer to keep it on the road.

Had to renew all my flexi hoses, most with braided but 2 I've had to send back as they're wrong so have 2 new rubber ones. Why did Audi think it was a good idea to use brass flare nuts??? All my hard brake lines have had to be remade at the rear of the car now too!

the bush/linkage has to be physicaly loose or insecure (i.e coming out of its mount) to fail, otherwise its pass and advise

wish i had pics as they say better than words

if the cradle was moving in all 4 bushes with no rubber i cannot fail under these new guidelines, and this is direct from VOSA after "the company i work for" were failing rear axle bushes on fiestas and wishbone rubbers on Polos etc

shocking yes, but i can see the sense

if the rubber inside a bush is worn away but the component cannot "fall out" it is not a fail seemingly

It's hard to believe what a difference there is between your MOT and our MOT. Our MOT can last around 5 minutes or so, depends on the location, not strict at all

I find it hard to believe to. The mot is realy down to the discretion of the mot person and i hate to say it, what sort of day or how he feels. Also it helps if he,s a mate ie not failing something coz a bulbs out or something stupid like that. Anyway good luck with said mot.

As much as I dont like to start an argument.........

Being an MOT tester all i can say is that statement (although not completely wrong) is wrong - at the end of the day its the testers discretion , VOSA don't dare fail anything for fear of reprisals (except rust) I have even passed cars with badly damaged windscreens ... because they don't actually affect the drivers view and therefore will meet guidelines knowing full well(as an independent individual) the screen is highly dangerous.

To say a bush can not be failed is incorrect , next time your car does fail on a bush ....Challenge the tester .......If you have a good MOT station and a good tester he should explain to you not only why he feels the bush is dangerous but also the fact that it it the testers discretion to pass or fail the item and a fellow tester (in the same garage!!) may even pass the vehicle.

If you have a bad MOT garage expect abuse , laughter and even MOT retest fee's....

I could go on for hours about the MOT test blah blah........

I've got poly bushes in the rear of my S2 Avant and I don't like them much as they squeek so much. When I do a rear rebuild on the car later this year I'll be using new OE bushes instead.

                    Cheers

I've also been in a car with poly bushes and they squeaked all the time too. Best avoided unless it's a track car. Just replacing 100k+ bushes with decent quality OE rubber will tighten things up a treat - I did this and the car still drives really nicely some 30k, track days, 'ring trips etc. later.

                      Good work on the pass

Will rubber bushes mean a trip to the stealers, bent over with the trousers down? Anyone know offhand the cost difference between rubber and poly?
