    A4 EPC Warning

    Evening all,

I'm posting in the hope that someone can help with an issue my Dad's A4 has suddenly developed. Was working perfectly until the other morning when she refused to start... The car will idle for a bit but won't rev and then just cuts out. The dash is flashing EPC and following some brief research this potentially means the crank or engine speed sensor is knackered? Annoyingly he's selling the car and has a buyer who needs the car yesterday () so would prefer not to get it code read as he hasn't got time. Does he buy the sensor and get it fitted or could it potentially be something else meaning it does need to get the codes read? It's a 1.8 NA B5 X reg. Any help as usual would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

is that the 5 valve 4 cylinder 20v na?

If so if you are able to get to a breakers you'd find the sensors easily, same engine as in passats and quite common.

these suffer with cam sensors failing mate, i do loads of them, they are behind cam cover and fitted to the end of the inlet cam

dont buy a cheapo one, may not work.......

get it code read first though for defanite rather than throw anything at it as a guess
