Just got back from France, having been to Auberchicourt (some 90 miles from Calais) to spend the weekend with our friends to watch the France/Wales game.
We have done the ferry many times, this time the tunnel- just couldnt believe how easy it was!
South Wales being some 250m from Dover, the trip was just short of 700 miles with 4 adults in the car, and she was well laden in both directions (wine, etc
); but by keeping the speed sensible (nudging the speed limit in GB as well as France), even tho the outside temperature was just above zero for the whole trip, she returned average 29mpg (ie just short of 2 tankfulls). For a Homefried car with 200k miles, I'm pretty impressed with that, the only (minor) hiccupp was a reluctant hot start at border control on way back, after idling for several minutes.
The Mrs (and my mates Mrs) panicking cos she heard there was Snow forecast for Kent.
She just doesnt understand how unstoppable these things are in snow (What's a Difflock????
)
A really enjoyable trip, and to think that She wanted to take the Espace!
D'oh!!!
