RIP Royal Mail - New parcel prices

Had heard about the price changes at Royal Mail and yesterday experienced the rip off that is their new pricing system.

The latest price rises have been targeted at small parcels, so now a DVD boxset weighing 300g cost me £8 for second class postage!

They have done away with the old small packet system and some items are over double the cost they used to be!

    Link to new prices

So now for anything more than a CD or single DVD I'd look elsewhere for a delivery service. I think I'll be using Collect+ a lot more where prices start at £3.99 for up to £2kg.

    RIP Royal Mail

I got caught out with this last week. parcels that used to cost me 7 or 8 quid now cost me 11.95 through parcel force! and thats on a 48 hour delivery!

    What a rip off!

I'll just be using couriers from now on for all my parcels, can get stuff sent alot cheaper.

Yup, the two trims that go underneath the windscreen on an avant for the wiper motor cover cost me around £12 to post

Is this the reason that they only employ zombies at the post office?

This is really going to hurt FleaBay as there are a lot of 'amateur' traders on there who will put off by the assumed aggrivation of using a courier and will probably decide not to bother, good news for the charirty shops though.

ParcelForce has always been a rip off, a few months back I was charged £37 to send a box weighing 2.2kgs (signature at the other end) to Ireland, unbelievable.

Seems a bit foolish to me but I guess the geeks behind the scenes will have run the numbers and forecast that the gains from the increased postage will more than offset lower volume, good opportunity for small couriers

They also employ numerically challenged postmen, ours can't count above 9, and in the snow even delivered the whole crescent's mail to the first house... Six times!

We've had mail for both neighbours, 25, 45 ( we're 35 ) and even for houses the next road over... It's totally random.

Collect+ is the way forward at the moment. Very good service for the money.

Yeah prices are one thing, helps if they dont loose them aswell. On the upside their insurance does pay out eventually

I'm still waiting for a parcel to be returned that I was told would be with me a fortnight ago Not impressed That's on top of losing a second set of disks headed for the US in 18 months. Couriers all the way now.

This price increase must have really pissed a lot of people off as this week I have had 3 small parcels delivered to me and all were sent with 'hermes',I have been impressed with their service when sending things but very rarely found anyone using them to send me items.

I could never fathom out why a 80g(for eg) package was the same price (or less) to send to any other EU country as it was to send in the UK,total ripoff company and I hope more people start using couriers

Hermes have always been quite good when I have used them. Normally book through them, interparcel or parcel2go
