    1.8t troubles

    i'm getting fed up now.
basically, i'm having major issues with my aeb converted 90q, running an a3 agu ecu with t28 turbo. been fine for a few year, daily driver driven hard. and only recently has started giving me grief. drove the car 50mile to a meet on another forum i use and it ran fine there and back, fuel was low so went to the petrol station and put more in. then when it come to start it it flooded... got it going and boost came in further up the rev range (as in 1000rpm higher than normal, felt fine power wise)
its current issue is starting or lack of starting. hot or cold when you turn the key it fires then floods, only way to get it to run is to unplug the fuel pump and temperature sender untill it catches then plug the fuel pump back in (do it via the fuse box so not too bad) then the temp sender other wise it idles really low and throttle does nothing whilst idling it reads slightly lean on my wideband gauge, used to be 14.7 + or -.2 now reading 15-17
took it for a drive and there was boost, no n75 as i didn't want to blow it up so 5psi wastegate pressure (gauge showed so and could hear it) but the was no forward momentum as if the ignition was been massively retarded or something

keep getting fault code up for
    00515 - cam position (hall) sensor (g40)
30-00 - open or short to plus

changed the cam sensor for 3 other sensors that came off perfectly fine running cars and still comes back.
pulled the entire loom out and checked everything over and found a few concerns but soldering iron and heatshrink and loom is 100%
    changed:
    maf x3
    injectors
    fpr x2
    ignition amplifier
checked all pipes boost and vacuum
checked cam timing (belt and chain)
new temp sender and 2 old 1s tried

all i can think to try next is fuel pump and then ecu
oh and when its running it revs up fine and sounds normal (no load, just sat in garage) so i don't think its burnt valve or slightly bent rod etc
    has anyone had this before?

oh and on the test drive mentioned above it would go lean on as it came onto boost so backed off the would read rich when throttle off.

Firstly , did you measure using the multimeter the wires on the camshaft sensor ? Do you get a feed , a ground ? Do you have an oscilloscope to check the camshaft signal ?
Check the fuel system. If is running lean is very dangerous for a turbocharged car because you can damage the engine .

Bad earth to ecu or dead ecu or a break in maf/lambda/tps signal wires. Or faulty lambda.

I'd start by unplugging lambda, maf and tps as seperate tests before anything else.

I'm pretty sure your cam timing is off. Broken lower timing belt pulley or jumped belt probably.

Align the bottom end timing mark on flywheel and then check where your cam mark points...
Front pulley mark may be way off compared to the flywheel mark.

Better not to run the engine before you inspect the timing properly.

i will buy a multimeter today and test the sensor wiring, no oscilloscope unfortunately. hopefully someone breaking a 90 will see my wanted ad for a fuel pump and i can get that changed just to rule it out

Tried unplugging maf and lambda, made no difference and unfortuantely the tps is built into the throttle body so cant unplug it without unplugging the throttle/idle control too, which i tried but it just dies. earths checked and fine.

i took number 1 plug out and made sure it was at top centre

i will report back after pump change and cam sensor voltage checked. thanks for all the help chaps

If there's a cam sender fault it's either the timing off or a problem with the signal.
ECU will be in limp mode with severely retarded ignition timing and lots of fuel dumped in.

You need to fix that fault code - changing lots of bits completely unrelated to the code is a waste of time, as you have surely found out by now.

in my defence most bits were changed before i was able to read the codes lol i tried plugging a friends cam sensor on his aeb and it idled as normal? just bought a multi meter though so i will investigate a bit more soon. thanks prj
