    Ripped off by martin joyce

    Warning to those in ireland.

I have been dealing with someone called Martin Joyce from the Belfast area. It all started well with him enquiring about a CAC exhaust system for a Audi S2 3B. We agreed a price and postage and this was paid via paypal to me. I then sent the exhaust to him through a courier tracked and thought that was it.

I have since found out he's claimed back the money through paypal and done a charge back to his credit card from my account which has resulted in my account being frozen. I have all the tracking details which show the parcel was delivered to him and I have not heard nothing more from him. He has since stopped all contact and blocked me on facebook and removed himself from the fb group.

I am writing this to warn fellow members of him, he is a member on here apparently as he has a S2 3B and found the group via here. Does anyone know him or why he has done this to me? I have provided paypal with all the tracking details and they are dealing with him currently.

I want to sort this out as people like him will put people off wanting to post to Ireland, you guys have it hard enough as it is without stuff like this happening.

I have in the past posted many items to Ireland in the same way and never had any issues but by him blocking me on facebook just proves to me that he had altria motives.

Hopefully someone knows him and can find out whats going on or he will respond here and let you know why he's done this.

I hope so - It has really annoyed me as I was just about to pay someone else and now they have to wait till I get it sorted.

How can paypal just do that without your knowledge? Don't they at least have to hear your side first?

When I logged into paypal it just shows a charge back has been made and asked for any information - tracking information has been forwarded to them but nothing has come back since.

I will have to check my emails when I get home from work later on and take it from there.

Its paypal, they cover the buyer rather than the seller.

If paypal believe they have enough evidence they will go ahead with a charge back without consulting the account holder where the money will be taken from. In a genuine case this is favourable as paypal will supply a refund to the claiming party only if there are funds availble in the account where the refund is coming from, no refund will be given if the account holder has emptied the account and no further action for a refund will taken by Paypal. This is the case with Paypal Australia as I have experienced.

Sounds like he took advantage of that and went ahead with a fraudulent claim. Did they charge back funds that were in your account or from your linked account/credit card?

They took the funds back that were still in my paypal account - I have sent them the tracking info and signature and print name of reciever so just have to wait and see what happens now.

I won't hold my breath though

That info should be enough for them to realise whats happened. It smells of deliberate fraud by him and hopefully paypal will see that.

pretty under hand. taff ill put some money your way if you come across some instruments with a good condition working trip computer.
good luck with pay pal. its sounds a fairly straight forward case of deception to me.

If you know his details, where he lives etc and have all this evidence, then isn't it possible to take it to small claims court?

Can't see that you'll not have Paypal eventually on your side once you provide full tacking details. Also try getting paypal on the phone it has worked for me in the past.

I tend to keep my Paypal account empty to avoid this kind off problem.

                            Good luck.
