    vag code readers

Anyone have any experience of these handheld code readers as an alternative to using a laptop and vag com. Was just looking for a set of cables and noticed them online.
£18 and chuck it in the boot of the car.

Ideal if they work. I realise a licensed copy of the software will do more but bit out of my budget. Just need a code reader at the moment. (+ 2x2 adapter)

these are very good for the money, not a substitute for vagcom/vcds though but will usually give you an idea, and some of them work with other makes of cars(bmw.french **** etc)

dont know if they are still available

but i had a Vchecker, anything 1995 on was perfect.

while on the phone to a mate from AMD he would tell me various "channels" ? ? ? to type in and various adjustments etc to do

failing that if its purely a code reader, buy the cheapest **** you can as all P codes are universal so any crap will do to give you an idea!

I use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LATEST-VAG...item588fcdd658
Plus the OBD1 adaptor from the same seller. It doesn't have the secondary fault info that you can pull out with a software based tool but its perfect for keeping in your glove box for emergencies. For example it enabled me to quickly pull over and diagnose a brake system warning light as a faulty wheel speed sensor, and not have to drive home sh*tting myself in case the brakes failed en route.
