    Turbo shaft play

So guys, what is an acceptable amount of play if any in the turbo shaft? Have got one here that if you grip the spindle with your fingers moves maybe 1mm side to side and a tiny bit less up n down if you pull it... (Oo, er mrs!)

Is that acceptable? What I'm trying to say is that I haven't and can't measure it but before putting it on does it sound ok? Have been told its a good unit which im sure it is but I think I'm being over paranoid as the last one i got had more play in it than the dodgey one on my car currently

    In the words of spink

"In an out is the one you want to be worried about, side to side doesnt matter as such,Also the amount of oil that is still inside the turbo apparently makes a lot of difference to the movement of the shaft"

+ if its ball bearing there is always a bit of play. Thrust bearing much less

Do you know this could be really bad reading if you didn't know it was about turbos.

Ok, so the up and down is minute as in I actually have been outside moving it to make sure it is up and down and it's tiny amount. The inside of the unit though looks spotless, mind you the sender may have cleaned it before sending but I would doubt it.

                Generally - no.

                Measure it though.

there will be small movements with get take up by oil as it gets filled/primed. then almost none. all depends on what we define as movement

my precision turbo had more movement in it than the KaKK I took off but when primed it was great and never had an issue.

Ahh ok, seems to make sense. I was informed it was a good unit with not loads of miles on it so I think im just being over cautious and asking as many questions about it as possible to save me time if it is a dud and to expand my knowledge. I know about some things and others I know nothing lol.
