    What are the differences between an Audi 80 coupe quattro 20V and an Audi S2

    From what I can find on the web, they were both 2.3, 20V, turbocharged Quattro (with Torsen), but the S2 has 217hp or 227hp (3B or ABY) from factory while the coupé 167hp.
    Also, in the mobile(dot)com all the coupé are cheaper than the S2.

    I have been searching a lot, but I can't find an answer to this.

    What's really the difference between 1989 (or before) audi 80 20v Quattro coupé and an 1990 (or later) Audi s2 as far as engine/mechanics?

    S2 is 2.2L and turbocharged, the Audi 80 Coupe you mention is not turbocharged.
    That's the main difference

      But aren't those non turbo engines a 10 valves?

      What's the difference between this:

      And this:
      http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat...178892377.html

      Both are 2.3liter, the first says 20valves and 125Kw, the second says 100Kw.

        100kw = 10v engine (NG)
        125kw = 20v engine (7A)

          So what's the code name for the S2 engines? I though it was 7A.

          Is the 20V N/A engine the same as the turbo S2? Per example can I turbo a 7A and get the same performance from it?

            7/A is the coupe quattro 20v. S2 come with either a 3B (Also known as RR for the original quattro) or an ABY. Both engines are 20v turbo. The ABY introduced coil packs instead of a distributor setup as well as a 6 speed gearbox. The RS2 ADU shares many of the ABY's features.

            I don't think a 7/A can be turbocharged directly without modification as there are differences in the engine components.

              Oh ok I though these 20V cars under 10k€ were S2, now I guess I will need to save money longer to buy an S2.
              Is the gearbox/transmission the same at least? So I could find a S2 engine and swap it to the coupe?

                  As pointed out by others, the normal (non-S2) B3 coupe quattros (CQs) came with a 7A 20 valve, naturally-aspirated, non-turbo, engine. The transmission mated to the 7A is different than the S2 3B/ABY cars. The 7A CQs got 01A 5 spds and the 3B/ABY S2 coupes got 5 or 6 spd 01E transmissions (location of reverse is one difference). The CQ rear diff is a AEC 37 tooth crown/9 tooth pinion (4.11 to 1) that would work with the S2 transmission (also 37/9).

                  034 Motorsport makes a turbo kit (not cheap) for the 7A. http://www.034motorsport.com/www.034...r-p-19679.html

                    They S2's have 5 stud wheels and running gear.

                    All other coupes have 4 stud wheels and running gear.

                    You could buy a standard coupe and turn it into an S2 replica but will cost you more in the long run to get every little bit that is slightly different

                          Have been in this forum for only a couple of hours, but I can see I will learn a lot from it, and everyone is very helpful, great forum! Hopefully when I know a little bit more I can help others out to.

                          Thanks everyone, my initial question is answered and understood.

                            Just to note it: you could order the coupes (none S2) with 5 lugs, Martin (ralleyquattro) posted the brochure once I believe

                              some of the other differences were in axles. the CQ (7A) has a 100mm inner cv while the S2 had 108mm inner cv's. and the European market also got a 4 cyl CQ, and it had 90mm inner cv's at least in the back.
