    Speeding new advice

Hey Guys I've had a letter through the post saying that I did 80mph in a 70mph on a dual carrigeway.
I think I saw the mobile van behind me in my rear view mirror parked up hidden from bushes on the hard shoulder.

I heard that speed cameras arent that accurate and you could contest the claim.

What are you thoughts? They say its 3points and £60.
    o_O

What can I do - they say if I fail to respond in 28days its £1000

Not speed is your first option.

    Failing that,

Talk to a lawyer that specialises in this field.

      80 in a 70? That's bloody harsh.

They are asking for who was driving the vehicle at the time. @jaychen, I'm not sure what "not speed" is. Ive never had this happen to me before

          Haha

          It means..

Don't speed and yoh wont get caught.

When you say it's never happened before, do you mean you've never been caught before ?

haha lol thx for the advice, though english speed limits I think - for motorways are too slow. We have new technology, safety performance and roads to allow for a higher limit/perfomance. It also affects traffic flow. As what we are seeing here are lots of people sat in all the lanes - say a 5 lane motorway sitting at 70.

Traffic should flow like water. The outside lane being the fastest and inside being slowest. How can you expect to over take when everyone is at 70 sat in outside lane??
There is this tendancy to do it (sit in outside lane at 70), where you have a line of traffic all in the fast lane , and non in the other lanes because of no lane speed flexibility. because the overtaking person cannot be allowed to go a little faster to overtake, causing pileups behind them.

Flowing traffic is more efficient than a sturgid traffic.

I tend to do the speed applied to the given situation. I drive very slowly in built up areas and where its congested. This is also why I'm surprised.
Its like they were trying to intentionally catch people out.
I was overtaking a vehicle also.

They could even cause people to slam on the brakes, I almost did, but I felt I was ok. (This could cause accidents and put people in danger when slamming on)
            hmmmm

I got caught doing 79 in a 70 zone a few years ago. I did a bit of research at the time and didn't think it was worth contesting. 3 points on my license didn't result in a insurance premium increase at least.

hmm... just .. well , rather not have it. As one thing can lead to another and a small situation becomes a worse situation in the future from my experience.

I would have thought so as your speeding at the maximum permitted speed limit and not being caught out at the 30mph end of the scale !
A higher speed will mean a greater inaccuracy from your speedometer and they have to make allowence.

Been on two courses now WITHIN the 2 year period
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

What happens is they ask for the details of who was driving the car at the time, you send that off and they will come back to you within 2 weeks with an option of the course or take the punishment given. When sending your details off make sure you put a note in and ask that you would like to go on the course to help improve your driving awareness worked for the missus

I got caught doing 68 in a 70............. Van and a bloody gasto. I've drive thought it at least 500 times in the last 9 years at 70 and just got the one ticket for it but got offered a course. You will more than likely get offered one if you have a clean licence too.

Gripper how have you got away with doing two in two years? I'm guessing they don't check there databases?
Just some finishing touches to do now

Yeah 68 in a 70. Dual carriage ways are 60mph for all commercial vehicles. And 50mph on single carriage ways if there is nation speed limit signs. I learnt that on the course ha ha
Just some finishing touches to do now

Got one in Bristol and another one about 8 months later just past the tolls going into Wales on the bridge.
                              Wales must be another country

Funny thing is when I came to book the Wales one I could have booked it anywhere I booked the Wales one at Swansea because I did not want to be rumbled but it cost me more than the English centres !
