If it makes you feel any better, twice I have been done for 33 in a 30

And I tried to contest another saying it was hiding (not allowed at the time), didn't have adequate reflective material (was at night) and also requested a proof calibration for the device.

I got back a photo of the location of the van on a clear road, a photo of it at night with a flash on and the certificate....was genuinely surprised how fast they got it together

I have since decided to try sticking to speed limits and this seems to be working.....although a lot less interesting!

But good luck, its ALWAYS worth a try!

on a side note; Don't you love the way the whole of society comes together to help you when it comes to avoiding speeding tickets, even to flash to warn you of an upcoming van

I like your style Gripper. I'll have to remember that if I get another one and try book it in Wales. They don't give them out in Scotland as far as I know.

Gutted for you. I hate dangerous slow drivers and think they outnumber fast and safe drivers with ease. Nobody ever gives them grief do they?

Still, you were going above the limit, they caught you (albeit a little underhandedly IMO) and now you must pay with points or do one of those natty courses. I did a speed awareness course last year after getting my first speeding ticket. It was a waste of time, more expensive than just taking the points and more importantly was on a night when Arsenal were playing. If I had the chance again and my licence was still clean, I would take the points rather than pay another £30 to literally lose the will to live.

Must admit, I have never sped again down the road in question. I make up for it on all other roads though. Let's face it, you dont drive an S2 without risking plods attention. It is just par for the course. I got done doing 37 in a 30. I thought you were allowed 10% + 2mph to allow for speedo calibration. 33 in a 30 would be more than a little galling. I might even give up driving and buy a pushbike if that happened to me.

I thought 10% + 2mph was a general rule, but then it also depends on where the offence is committed. I think the Hampshire Police constabulary is much stricter, whereas in Surrey this rule is relaxed on motorways. That's a great idea about suggesting a speed awareness course, wish I had done that.

Don't admit you were driving, say you loaned out your car, and they can't make the points stick.

I know someone who went on an awareness course, the copper there said all cameras are set to 10% +1
