I wouldn't go for anybpf those. The modern common rail diesels are just problems on wheels. Between common rail pumps and injectors failing and particle filters blocking they are just a nightmare. You could spend over 1k on a pump and almost as much for a set of injectors. Keep it old school and get a 1.9tdi with be pump or a PD engine. Much better.

Or you would get a good 1.8t quattro a4 for that money. What about a Skoda 4wd 1.8t?

      Thanks

Im happy to go old school (similarly my wifes X3 has had probs too early in it life in my opinion). What age and models should I look at on the PD engine?

      thanks

Anything with a 1.9tdi will be good. They were all ve pump or PD. So the 90 110 115 and 130 engines. Some 100pd as well. I think they were available up to maybe 2005? The 110 is best for power delivery and economy. Easy yo get them up to a safe 140bhp and fuel economy is better than the PD units. Reliable units. Just check condition of car and servicing etc.
