    crashed S2 today

Need some advice from anyone who has been in this situation...

I was in an accident a few hours ago. I'm ok, my S2 isn't

I have phoned my insurance already as i'm 99.9% sure its a write-off. Is it just a case of getting as much i think it was worth? Can i buy it back?

what happened: Straight bit of road, following a Golf and car/caravan. I begin overtaking Golf, i get majority of the way past, when he also pulls out to overtake clips my back left wheel/side, sends me in a spin into caravan.

This should be claimed through the Golf drivers insurance so i don't know how this effects me?

I know its just a car at the end of the day... i'll stop rambling im in a bit of a state. If anyone can offer any advice... thanks

Glad you're ok, sounds pretty Had a similar close call or two myself over the years.

Start collecting adverts for similar cars for sale, so you can show the insurance company market value. It'll be a write off if the damage is over about £1500. Don't let them take the car if you can. Get it assessed and take it from there.

    Good luck.

      Another one bites the dust

The main thing is you are ok.

My advice would echo Andy's - start to collect evidence of the cars true market value. If you can remove any salvageable modifications and replace with standard parts as you will never see their value back from the insurance firm. What ever you do don't let them take the car away. If it gets written off, whether you can buy back the salvage will depend on the category of the write of - fight to register the lowest category you can.

Don't let them take it away, i'd just break it personally if you think it isn't salvageable..sorry for the loss

****, Glad you are ok man. Iv had a similar thing happen with a golf but it didnt hit me only because i swerved and clipped the hedge on the other side of the road.

I have no experience of insurance claims for this kinda thing so i cant give any advice.

          Hope you get something sorted.

how much is car worth ? if its not too mutch and its his falt let his insurance pay for his .if you dont clame then there is no loss of insurance and you get to fix the car or do whatever with it . but if damage is too great and you want to clame then do so but be prepared to lose the car as some cases insurance don't sell back to you

Either the coppers or the Golf's insurance company (or both) are going to *try* to suggest that you were making an unsafe passing manouver and that you are at least 50% at fault. (Probably not true, depending on whether you flashed your headlights and/or had your signal light on).

The Golf driver was obviously not paying attention and failed to check their mirrors and/or shoulder check and pulled out when you were in their blind spot. In the time they started to pull out and they hit you, you had moved ahead enough that they only clipped your left rear corner. Could have been worse.

How did the caravan fair? After watching last Sunday's Top Gear, it appears that they are made of papier mache.

                  Claim from golf driver
I had similar happen when parked up, right side of a one way street
Car parked on left side pulled out in front of an rsturbo
Rs hit that car, which swerved across and hit mine, then hit another 3 after-like pin ball game
After a long time insurance of the car that pulled out paid up cos it was their fault
Assessor should come to where your car is, don't take it/ have it taken anywhere
Put standard parts on before assessor comes, they may take photos and then compare when they get it
Last accident I had the other party's assessor was the repair garage-they wanted the business-so stress how rare and important the car is to you
Also, when you know they're coming wash it!
Leave it with a misting of water on-that way they can't assess the paint if it's scratched before accident so can't lower pre crash value-an assessor told me to do that

Sorry to hear the bad news- and I believe your car was one of the better ones around too...glad you're ok and not in casualty..the golf driver should be..
I had a very near miss last week in identical situation, managed to swerve over into (empty thankfully) oncoming lane to avoid hitting the pr*ck that pulled out without looking- and I had my main beams on in daylight..if hadn't been in my forestry commission car I'dve followed him home and had 'words'...
Hope you get the car back in the claims process-good luck for that ..and rebuild..

                      Really sorry to hear this!
There is no doubt in my eyes that the golf is a t fault. TBH S2's can really catch people out with their acceleration, and its not always instinctive to check your mirror when pulling out to overtake on a single carriageway. But this is different!! He caught the back end of you! Which means you must have been in clear sight to him at the time of the accident, it sounds like he mis-timed his pull-out??? Unless of course you were travelling at a fair lick faster than him in which case there may have been no time to react. Either way its clearly the golfs fault and i hope the insurance sees it too and you get a good settlement!

Sorry to hear mate... A bit of advice...
Car is legally yours and insurance have no rights to take it from you,
You have the first refusal by law to buy it back for salvage price, and you ca offer the amount aswell
Never speak to third party only with your insurance. Dont let car go out let them to come and inspect. I gone through all this. Follow this rules and you will be ok.
Best site to get legal advice is moneysupermarket.

Sorry to hear that, at least you are ok, metal can always be replaced.

Get the car onto you, or a friends property. I would advise against letting them take the car, it remains your property.

Pretty much as others say aboce above, collect/provide evidence to counter the low ball offer that is coming. I would keep the car to fix/strip or sell to somebody to fix/strip depending on your situation.

It is likely to be written of due to age. If its a cat C or D you can return it to the road, fine for you but lowers resale value. Cat C needs a VIC check.

                            How bad is the car?

Golf driver should be done for dangerous driving. Did he not have a wing mirror or ability to turn his neck? Glad you are in one piece. Good luck with the ensuing hassle.
