    Welder Advice

Not a welder by trade and a long time since I've had a dabble with a cheap Clarke basic mig welder.

That aside, I might now have the opportunity to buy a Migtronic PI200 welder. Was thinking that, if its cheap enough, it might be an investment for any future work I may need to do on the car or van.

Does anyone have any opinions or thoughts on whether or not this is worth looking at. As I say, I have very limited knowledge and skill so its a question of how easy it would be to use and what it can be used for.

    Thanks

    Alistair

dont have that brand here but i assume 200 means 200amps, that should be ok for most car stuff . I welded cages with a 240amp but not flatout so 200 should be ok , just dont use gasless wire (its not good)
    thanks

Don't know anything about them myself but they are supposed to be a pretty good brand. You realise that Pi200 is a TIG not a MIG?

Yes. I asked one of the fabrications lads and he said it would also be suitable for aluminium and stainless. If I'm correct, its AC/DC which makes stainless possible.

The company I work for is partially closing so they are selling off some items. Hoping to get a bargain. Anyone know roughly what it would be worth? I think its about 6 years old but I don't think its had a great deal of use.

Thanks for the correction. As I said, very little knowledge or skill

I presume it's HF start and not scratch start. That will make your life a lot easier

How much were you thinking you'd get it for, they're £2500 new

You can get something much cheaper as a starter set.

Was hoping for a real bargain. Maybe £300ish. But now they seem to be looking to sell the whole machine shop as a job lot. I can only wait and see. It was more a nice to have rather than necessity.
