160K miles and the RS2 gets better and better

No particular reason for this thread other than the clocks on my RS2 spun past 160,000 miles today and it brought a smile to my face

Having driven alomost 25,000 miles in 'The Beast' over the last 4.5 years it's still getting better with age. Other than sitting in city traffic I can honestly say I've loved every mile driving this monster of a motor, even when something goes wrong....but that's part of the appeal to me.

For anyone thinking of getting into RS2 ownership and worried about mileage don't be, I reckon these are in their prime now.....

Fair play, i love seeing the digits click round to big round numbers.

Been umming and ahhing about an RS2 for as long as I can remember. With prices the way they are, now is the time to buy a decent one based on history/condition and not mileage. They are going to increase in value in the next 5-10yrs methinks. Trouble is, my S2 is close to 100% (touch wood) so not really keen to let go if I can help it.

Anyhow, good work on using your toy rather than letting it sit in a garage and hope you enjoy the next 160k.

Mine is on 165k km's and I've started using it as a daily. These cars def need to be driven, cause keeping them parked up for long periods, leads to additional maintenance etc. Also, this is the best way to identify little niggles etc. Only problem is that my other car needs the same type of attention. For now, the RS2 is the daily drive, and will remain that way and the other will be the weekend toy..

My first Ragussa Green one hit 180,000 before I sold it on. That was back in 2002

The bloke who bought it phoned me up out of the blue a year or so later, saying how nothing had gone wrong with it, and it had clocked up 200,000. He was a sales rep.

I would like to know where he is now, as I would have it back

Or maybe someone's spotted it M8** LYY....

I was surprised to note than my RS2 was just over 164k miles on the MOT this month. She has been my daily through 2 winters and after 16 months off the road it's great to be using it as my daily again.

Less vibration through the chassis now I've renewed mounts and she is brutal on boost! Next I'll be getting looking at sorting out the bodywork - can't see any reason to sell her.

Mileage is not an issue as long as they are looked after, my RS2 has done nearly 214,000 and is still putting out 340bhp on the dyno, like any car they need to be used and looked after.

Its all about condition and how the car drives, I have driven cars with lower mileage that don't drive as well as mine ! The only odd issues I have had are a failed door lock and dodgy wiring at the hinge leading to the tailgate.....

Just bought a polar silver RS2, that's done 145,000 but due to poor mapping she needs a rebuild. Can't wait until it's had a refurb then it's time for some long distance European blasts as well as been a daily.

It's funny, I have a (soon to be sold) 2003 RS6 that is just great for cruising - eats miles and has performance on tap with a lazy auto box. But I'd not trust it to get me to Europe and back - it may well return on a flat bed!

But I'd take my RS2 any day - sure I'd have some spare jubilee clips and a few tools just in case, but the only time it's been off the road is because I've decided to replace/upgrade/rebuild something.

rs2Ben - put a project thread up and I'm sure you'll get some help if needed. I had my engine rebuilt but did the removal/refit with forum help! Combine it with replacing tired mounts, and ancillaries and put some silicone boost and coolant hoses in. And a safe map of course!

My RS2 recently hit 188000kms. I got her 5 years ago with 108000kms. She is my week-end and holiday car, though I did use her as a daily for about a year, and agree with Darkhorse, she just seems to get better with mileage. Looking forward to a +- 600km trip this week-end.

From my last fuel log mine reads 245000kms but that is true chassis kms rather than engine as the engine has been rebuilt twice. One at 125K and one more recently about a few thousand kms ago.

I have to say I have been using the rs2 for daily and cruising and I like it very much. However mine is showing the need for a repaint and I'm dwelling with the idea of finding a cheap quattro sedan back home to get and do a transformation rather than paint mine and still have it in the UK wilderness in lack of a closed garage.

I'd much like to have it as a weekend car to be honest as it still gets moved and brings out less hassle to maintain ( look at Robs rs2 GT500) which looks like it came out of the factory simply because it gets operated on good weather conditions and for a few months in a year. However funds prevent me from owning another car for now so it will have to do.

Ross, funny what you say about the RS6/RS2s on continental blasts. You're definitely more organised/prepared than me with your emergency spares etc. I've taken mine to Cologne twice now with absolutely nothing but a spare wheel and jack with me but I never once thought I would be left stranded, probably foolish but the old girl feels as solid as a rock.

Out on the Autobahn it's an absolute dream...whether it's flooring to the redline or cruising in 6th, you can tell it was built for those roads...just a shame we don't have any over here.

Good to hear that so many are using these as dailies or at least regularly, the only thing that stops me using mine for work is the wazzocks in their company 320ds who don't seem able to park/open doors without dinging bodywork in my work's car park. C'est la vie

That's good to hear, and I'm guessing that's miles is it? And no engine rebuild in that time?
