    Grrrrrr!

    Bloody car.

After all the hassle/£££ I've had over the last few months with fuel pump, engine sensors, coilpacks she finally decided to run great. Still does.

Just splashed out on a couple of other bits which I need to replace and this morning the bloody heater fan decides to give up! Just when i need it and after the clocks changed of course so its pitch black outside most of the day so you can see what your doing. Didn't want to give up in June did it!

    Grrrrrr!

So, going to fix this little Gremlin as well - But if ANYTHING else decides to quit on me before Christmas she's up for sale or scrap yard.

(No life in fan at all, dead in all positions. Fuse 17 ok, anyone got an idea before I take a hammer to it!)

If the fan doesn't run in any speed position it's not the resistor pack as it it's not in the circuit for max speed although the wiring does run through the pack module.

I'd suggest putting you hand down through the pollen filter opening and checking that the fan impeller is free to turn as it can sieze due to lack of lubrication.

After that get in behind the glove box, which might mean removing it depending on if you have A/C or not, and checking with a multimeter to see if you've got volts at the motor terminals. There should always be +12 volts at the fan motor +ve terminal with the ignition switch on, regardless of the fan speed switch position. If you connect the fan motor -ve terminal to an earth the motor should run at full speed. If it does, you've a problem in the speed switch and resistor pack wiring. If it doesn't run at full speed you need a new fan motor.

The fans are pretty cheap for these and im pretty sure an A4 one will fill the gap..

But note that A/C and non A/C fan motors are different.

            Yes. It has A/C.

Will have to wait until the weekend to check it out (daily driver).

Only thing I noticed before it "expired" was a very squeaky drive belt which didn't occur before and not once after (?). But surely this is electrical. A dodgy a/c pump drivebelt wouldn't stop the fan working surely ?

Will dive under the dash to check +12v asap.

Correct, the compressor drivebelt has nothing to do with the fan.

                Guess what.....
Didn't start this evening and tow rope involved........
3hrs later and some "tinkering"....still no joy. (Guessing cam sensor)
