    Wanted-B5 A4 1.tdi quattro adverts-insurance

    Hi folks

I just got banged up the **** at a roundabout

So in preparation for a lowball offer I am going to start collecting adverts for

    B5 A4 1.9tdi quattros, 1996/7.

Mine was in excellent condition, really clean, no rot, took ages to find, but I expect the insurance offer will buy me a boggo rusted out fwd a4.

If anybody comes across any for sale it would be great to know, I have looked on ebay and there is only a couple of scabby high milers right now.

    Thanks

    Andy

Yeah, took ages to find this one, and it was really clean, no rust, every other one we went to see was a joke, they were all rotten. We have been looking for another one for about a year with no luck, all the ones we have gone to see have rust on the rear arches, bottom of the doors etc.

A couple of pictures from today

Bootlid bent and outer skin dented, bumper popped in and back out so marked.

          Spare wheel well knocked inwards.

          Little bend

          So all fixable

Now going through the insurance hoops

Called my insurance to notify them of the accident, other party liable, just notifying them. Oh, that is a claim Take the car to Arnold Clark for assessment and we can organize a courtesy car. The car will be written off due to the age. We will claim it all back from the other party.

Other parties insurance calls, apologizes, admits liability. They want to flat bed the car to a repair centre for assessment, with the intention of repairing. They will organize a courtesy and my car will be collected

Let my insurance know the other parties insurance is dealing with it, oh thats fine, you wont have to pay your excess then, but we will note the claim

Call the repair centre as they did not call me. They cant collect the car for at least another week. Hire car company call, I can only get a car if my car is un drivable (Insurance company told me they would drop one off, I did not ask for one) I drove it home but it is bashed, and the exhaust is blowing. Repair centre say the car will be written off due to age, I ask how long an assessment will take, less than 15 minutes so I just drive the car to the repair garage to get it over with.

The assessment consisted of taking pictures of the outside of the car, and looking in the boot, NO mechanical checks, or under car checks performed, Less than 5 minute inspection. He says car may be repaired

Get home and the hire company call me again to organize the car, but as the repair centre has deemed the car safe to drive I cant get one

I jack the car up, middle exhaust clamps burst and the exhaust is hanging off.

I call the insurance company, they say if I am not confident in the car they will organize a hire car. I suggest fixing the exhaust myself and invoicing them, they authorize self repair of the exhaust, just notify the garage and get them to add the cost to the repair bill.

          I mean WTF

I was really tempted to just fix it today as I was off work and just tell them where to go.

So I am currently waiting to find out what the repair quote is, and the value of my car for them to decide whether it will be repaired (I highly doubt it). Then buy back the car and fix it if it is written off.

          Sorry about the rant

Has anybody got any experience of quoting for the work themselves?

****ing muppets. The entire system is setup for the average member of the public who is a ****ing moron. Its also stitched up so the "approved" repair centres get the work, however they only get "approved" if they do the job as cheap as possible for the underwriters. Any body man who threatens to do a through repair job will never get a look in as it will cost too much. The whole industry is bent a a nine bob note.

Really sorry your having problems i totally suympathise with your plight.I have said it in another post that insurance is basically legalised theft, meaning they take your money in the blink of an eye and then want to F***k you around till you settle for Nothing.Words to that effect.Thats how they make profits.

My wife has a A4 which needed a new bumper because a Idiot ambulance driver (mondeo estate paramedics)seriously cut the corner as my wife was coming the other way because he thought why not.T**t.

Our insurance said to take it to their approved repair centre. My relpy to the insurance company was factuall and to the letter of the law. I said i decide where it goes and told them why... about what will be their cheap and shody repair.I said its an audi and it will be repaired at my local VW/AUDI bodyshop who know the processes involved for our car. They just shut up and said nothing but....OK.

Unless things have changed You can take it where you like.Just hold your ground.

Looking at your pictures it doesnt look that bad at all. But they will just say uneconomical repair beacuse it suits them because its qucker for them that way instead of communicating with the repairer authorising this part that part....oh and they do use second hand parts a lot nowadays.

I hope you get the outcome you want!!!!

                Cheers guys.

Yup they have a monopoly on a scam that you legally must buy

Vorsprung-Was your car newer? My A4 is old, so I would expect the insurance company to deem it uneconomical to repair. So no chance of them approving an Audi fix.

I would probably rather fix it myself anyway, I dont like other people working on my stuff.

I dont know if it would be better to get a pay out for it to be fixed, or if its written off and I keep it?

                    The insurance company deemed the car uneconomical to repair, so I got 2 options from the insurance company;

Payment in lieu for the repair, and no mark set against the car

                    or

Car written off, I get the value of the car, and could buy it back for salvage value, then need to pay to get it VIC checked as they would write it off as a cat C .

                    I took the payment.

I have bashed out the spare wheel well so the boot is usable, bootlid from ebay to fit and we should be back to "normal" with a scratched bumper I can live with.

So as far as these things go, a fair bit of faff and stress, but sorted out in the end.

Good news and probably as acceptable result as you could hope for but still annoying when you did nothing wrong. Onwards for the next moon and back quarter mill miles.

Sorry mate for slow response somehow this slipped through.
Glad you got sorted in the end.I hate all the stress and crap that goes with it.Have i got that right you got the payment for repair and it's not going to be recorded? If that's correct that's great news! I don't think you would have found another car as good as yours and as yours has only very very minor damage should be very easy to sort out.Nice one...

                          Thanks.

Yup, I get cash, and nothing is recorded against the car. New bootlid is in the garage awaiting fitting on a dry day off, got a westfalia towbar to fit as well when the bumper comes off.

Its the best outcome from the situation really.
