    A great deal ?

    Chaps

Spotted this on the halfords website

    Halfords
Heavy Duty Industrial Bottom tool box
    Heavy Duty Industrial Top Box
Advanced Professional 150 piece tool kit

    for GBP399, list is 800 ?

Sounds like a bargain to me, or am I missing a better option somewhere ??

I would leave Halfords well alone.Overpriced and not very good at all.

If price point with quality is key you can't do much better than Teng tools and they are very good along with Facom and Sykes pickavant, this stuff will last and is nice to use.Make sure you buy 6 point sockets as 12pt will round of rusty old nuts. I have a few bits bought 20 years ago from Snap on but it's really just overpriced for what it is. My advice go for teng or facom in 3/8" and 1/2" drive.

Umm, I disagree with above. Some things are overpriced. But the tools are well worth buying. I have had a 120 piece professional set from them and it has served me well for at least 5 years and I do all the work on my cars at home with friends helping. This set has been used for the whole thing which included a head rebuild apart from the work Jp did for me. Plus point is when the tools break like a snapped Allen key, they replace it for free even without a receipt which is the best part. How many teng bits can you do that with???

So you have had good experience with Halfords then. The sockets you use have how many points?

Not a clue bud but they do the job. Given they dont feel as nice as a snap on or mac item but they don't cost a fortune either and I don't have to deal with the local snap on man who is a complete and utter moody ...... I know I can't say the actual word on here lol

I am though wanting some snap on ratchet handles as they do feel so much nicer and have a more minute click thing

I also have a heavy duty halfords top box which I have had for at least 10 years and it's still perfect so I would say is a good buy. I'm currently after a bottom box and will not be buying the halfords one. There's a nice bearing one from machine mart that I'm getting which seems very good for the money. My brother who's a mechanic brought one and says it's very good too

That's my point. Owning an old audi like you and i do you MUST use 6 point (especially underneath the car) if you want to avoid serious trouble.

I used to be a tools buyer, buying tools from all around the world (the info is buried in another post of mine) and should know a thing or too about tools But don't take my word bud.

This is a great forum to learn from even those of us who know a thing or 2 that's why we are members on here at least that's what i thought the point was to learn from people who have the knowledge, and that including myself.

I have bought a few odd tools here and there from Halfords over the years to get me out of a pickle on a Sunday, and I think they are very good for the money. They are far cheaper than the like of Snap-on, or Facom & Teng for that matter and with a lifetime warranty you cant really go wrong for DIY use. Likewise the new Clark Pro range from Machine Mart is good VFM and has a lifetime warranty also. Just my 2c

Don't get me wrong, I would love snap on and own quite a few teng items but my main bulk is the halfords stuff. It's always worked fine for me. I know what you are saying about the better points though and late last year I did say to my brother I wanted some snap on/ mac ratchet handles this year so I shall be on the look out lol

I have ratchets and sockets from all manner of manufacturers and I have to agree that the Halfords stuff is good for the money when it's on offer. No idea who makes it for them. I've never managed to break any of it which ain't bad given the abuse some of my tools get.

Looks like a great deal to me, I've got one Halfords box and loads of tools and the quality is great and I've not broken anything yet. The set shown also has a mix of 6 and 12 point sockets, so you're covered either way. Sure Teng and Facom are nice, but do you really need them for a home mechanic, I don't think so. See how many Facom tools you can buy for £399?

See if you can find anybody who has a trade card and you'll get it even cheaper.

I've got the 150pc socket set and cant fault it.
