Would like some advice on the above.
Saw somewhere they removed plugs and sprayed wd40 into the cylinders first ? Also have heard remove fuel pump relay to get oil lubrication up and around the engine. Cars been standing in a nice warm garage if it makes any difference ?
TIA.
Take the plugs out and disable the fuel pump or injectors. Spin the engine over on the starter until you see a couple bar of oil pressure, then you should be good to go

Worth fresh engine oil too. Run it for a few hundred miles then do another oil change to make sure it's all nice and clean in there. For a £3 oil filter and £40 worth of oil it's well worth it.

If you told us what the car was, e.g. S2 we could point you at the correct injector or fuel pump fuses to pull to prevent fuel spraying into the cylinders while you crank the engine to get some oil circulating.
For example, the grey 208 relay beside the spare fuses:

Thanks for all the replies. Its a Rs2 (mine ). Have finally finished renovating the house now its the cars turn . Have been slowly collecting bits for it and need to start it to reposition in the garage so I can put it on stands and work on it.
Peel cam belt cover back and see if belt is cracked?
I'm buying a car soon that's not been run since 2008- checking and maybe replacing belt is in the list.
First taking plugs out and hand cranking to check if seized, if ok then oil change etc
Turn over with pump off n plugs out, maybe having capillary gauge for oil to check pressure properly.
If it has been stored indoors, change oil and filter and fire it up. . Change oil again soon. That is all...
