Anyone over there into the car transport business accidentally?
The car needs to be transported from Portland to Los Angeles.

Seattle / Bellingham is closer. but i do not know if they do what you need to do.

i do know a car hauler guy, i do not know where in the US he is right now nor when he will be in the area. i can get you in touch with him on FB if you like.

              road trip?.....

I'm a little surprised that european's are bringing rare-ish cars back to europe its normally the other way around (unless its americana type stuff) good to see there is a global market for the old audi stuff....

as for shippers, I can try and find out from a mate that shipped his stuff back from the states as he used Mini/Jaguar landrovers shippers as they were just sending back empty containers and didn't cost him much....compared to other quotes he had...

I'm open for options, always a shame to bring back empty containers!

                There are a few reasons:
The Audi 90 quattro (EU version of the same car) are getting harder to find let alone a solid one for a good price.
The Audi 4000 has most of the extra's as standard except for ABS which I don't care about.
I like the fact I'm allowed to drive with the small license plates on.
It's a car you don't see much on our roads.

All in all I convinced myself it's a good idea to import one

why not make a vacation out of it? fly there with a budget airline, and drive the car yourself to either LA or NY, whatch the ship leave for Rotterdam fly back, and mail me the keys and I'll drive it from Rotterdam to Friesland

Nope no road trip for me, should be busy graduating now and the next couple of weeks.

No problem if you want to deliver the car to me, but I guess I'll have to collect it in person at the port and pay taxes etc.

So I am graduated by now and got a message that the car has arrived and is ready to be collected.

My only issue at the moment is where to put the car as I haven't sold enough cars already

And now I know the final costs, €4600,- for the car, transport and taxes. Rule of thumb that applies to Holland for importing cars from the US is: the price of the car in dollars times two is the price in euro's, which would mean the total costs would have been €5000,-. Luckily it's a bit lower but not by much
The value of the car in euro's was €1880,- so shipping and taxes add quite an amount...

Anyway, I'll try to collect it on friday.

Didn't have time for that sorry, trip was long enough already.
Anyway car is not as described (what else is new )

After having a brief look at it, it will need the following and I'm sure there is more to follow:
                                - rear bumper (is deformed around the tail pipes)
                                - windscreen (I believe the seller stated that so can't complain)
                                - door cards (at least the front ones because they got speaker holes, IIRC they weren't present in the pics I was shown)
                                - door pocket is missing on the drivers side, edit: I found it but the screw holes are erm screwed
                                - drivers seat is looking pretty tired but I know this ain't a new car..
                                - central locking does not work, edit: it does and it opens the trunk as well fortunately
                                - rear left window won't open
                                - handbrake does not work (calipers broken/seized)
                                - various dents on doors and front wings (not all can be 'pushed' out)
                                - paintwork is bad
                                - clutch is heavy and must be replaced

I haven't driven the car but I'm sure there is more than the above.

                                So what's good about it:
                                - all 4 tyres are new as I was told
                                - as far as I can see it is indeed a rustfree car which I'm happy about

So all in all there is much work to get it how I want it to be. I'm going to have a look at the pics again (if they are still online) and see how they compare to the real state of the car.

One thing I have learned by now is that very few sellers can be trusted and my standards are in a different league compared to others in the type 85 scene
