Thinking of buying Audi A4 B8, good or no good!?

I'm thinking of buying an Audi A4 B8 (MY 08-). Is there anyone on here that has experience with these cars? Are they reliable or are there many problems?

I would prefer a TDI but 2.0 TFSI is also an option. Using google I have found complaints about the 2.0 TFSI burning a lot of oil. But in some cases it was fixed under warranty (new pistons and more!!).

I also have seen that the injectors have been failing in some of the TDI engines. And that sometimes the oil pump brakes down, not good at all

I like these cars and would like to have one, but if a lot of them are trouble makers then maybe it's not such a good idea. So any comments are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Also watch out with the throttle control valve on TDI's as they get clogged and strip plastic gears, simple enough to remove and clean though

Mate has a 2.0TDi quattro avant, it's been really reliable for him (over around 30k miles).
He's very pleased with it. Comfortable and enough fun to drive (his is remapped and is reasonably quick). Interior doesn't seem as nice quality as the older models IMHO.

I have a 58 plate 2L TDI and a 53 plate 1.9TDI Quattro sport and I prefer the 53 plate more comfortable more economical despite being a Quattro!!! Not impressed with the car and looking to replace the 58 plate one and keep the older one

              Thanks for the comments

So far no horror stories, that's a good thing I have to agree on the EPB though.

I will then be on a lookout for one. But feel free to comment if you have anything more to say about these cars.

              Thanks

                Avoid 2.0 TFSi.

It is a very rough running engine, it has more vibration than a diesel in many cases, and the intake valves get coated with cr*p due to the direct injection.
They tend to burn oil as well.

3.0 TDI with the 240hp engine is a much better choice. The injector and tensioner problems are solved on those, and with a de-dpf and remap you can make 310-320hp on them.

Only problem we've had with the 2.0 TDI was a faulty exhaust pressure sensor (engine light on). Codes read as above. Was 85 euro all in, not so bad for over 5 years work.

Yes, that's what I have heard about the 2.0 TFSI.

You say that the injector and tensioner problems are solved on the 3.0 TDI, was that already in 2008? Since most likely my budget will only allow me a 2008-2009 car

And would you say that the 3.0 TDI is more reliable than the 2.0 TDI? I know that the 3.0 would be more fun to have, but I must also think about reliability and maintenance cost.

Thanks to everyone for their comments!

Yes, on all A4 B8 there is the 240hp engine and on those the tensioner and injector problems are solved. So that starts with the 2008 model.

The only issues are the intake flaps, but it is very easy to remove them and code them out, as they do not affect anything except emissions on low throttle.
Same thing for the particulate filter.

2.0 TDI - there have been oil pump issues on those ...

AFAIK there was a bad batch of rings fitted to the 2.0tfsi, a soft TSB for rings was issued.

If it failed an oil consumption test and was under 100k warranty etc they would re ring it, no hone, oil consumption problem solved.

                        Carbon deposit problem still present.
