Incorrect! It needs to be 40 years old since January 1 2014 to be completely road taks free. This was 25 years untill January 1 2014, has never been 35 years.

Petrol cars that are 25 years old pay a maximum of €120,- a year but are not allowed in the following months: December, January and February. If one uses the car in these months ful years road tax has to be paid. Also when the €120,- is paid in 2014 and the car is sold, the new owner doesn't have to pay road tax for the same year and the former keeper won't get a refund. This is all new since 2014.

LPG and diesel cars pay the full road tax like newer cars if the car is not yet 40 years old. So apart from someone who likes to drive the old cars there is absolutely no point in driving an old car nowadays.

In other words I need to buy me a second daily just to use in the winter months.
