Having personally looked at a RS6 you need well documented history. Make sure the suspension has been replaced from the troublesome drc which leaks badly and expensive to repair a gearbox replacement is a bonus if not needs looking after with regular servicing and fluid changes check the cambelts have been changed and make sure the turbos are in good condition if not the gearbox will cost you £5000 to replace the suspension will cost £1500 and the turbos a similar amount I cant comment on the S6 but that's my understanding of the 2003 model RS6 and they are VERY fast cars with a standard bhp of 450 0-60 in 4.5 seconds a truly remarkable machine if its been looked after

The S6 is probably quicker than the RS6. Also lots less grief.
The 5 speed tip on the RS6 is horrible, it ruins the whole car.

4.5s 0-100km/h. Maybe if you launch it hard by holding the brake and the foot to the floor, but that will quickly damage the already weak trans that it has.

It does not sound like the C6 is trouble free, but maybe as bad as the V8 FSI cars http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...a-used-2008-S6

The C6 does have some niggles but not like the C5. Having made the decision to go with the C5 RS6 over the C6 S6 myself? If i were doing it again I would go for the C6 without hesitation, although to be fair my circumstances are a little different.

Be aware the C5 will frustrate you with it's crappy gearbox, it will almost certainly break and even if it doesn't you'll have plenty of other issues cropping up - over 2 years I took a hit for 6 grand on mine. And I paid top dollar for a car with 'nothing wanting, all issues addressed etc'. Thing is, I don't regret it, because I did always want one and now I've had my fill.

If you do get the C5 - get one with a recent, warrantied gearbox or price it in at £3500 for a refurb during your ownership. And expect to fit coilovers if not done already or deal with DRC frustrations.

The harsh reality is, if I'd had the cash, I could have got a C6 RS6 and the cost of ownership over 2 years would have been about the same. They are really keeping their value well with lower running costs and they're on another level. The S6 seem to be the same price now as 2 years ago too, with even less to go wrong - an understated bargain if you ask me.

Timing chain in the v10 is a big worry, it stretches until timing goes off. On cold start no rattles, if so, don't buy it or calculate a ~8000 euro fix in. For the rest those cars are awesome. Little heavy, but the V10 engine is a masterpiece.
