    Speedo fail

I think this maybe a common fault but the speedo needle has gone on strike, any suggestions on bringing back to life ?

The needle does drop back sometimes but a quick tap on the dash and it jumps back to life so was thinking maybe was in the speedo head ?

This sounds like a bad connection in the speedo itself.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

I've had this problem. There's several connections within the instrument cluster between the speedo electronics and the external connector to the wiring loom that could be bad but the most likely is where the 4 long pins on the speedo unit itself connect to the main PCB on the back of the instrument cluster.

I suggest taking the instrument cluster apart to the point where you can remove the speedo unit and clean up those pins. At the same time you can resolder the joints on the 4 way ribbon cable inside the speedo unit.

If all else fails, think about taking 4 wires directly from the speedo unit PCB to the back of the connector that connects to the car wiring loom.

Those 4 wires carry all the connections needed for the speedo unit which are +12v, ground, feed to speed sender on the gearbox, Vss speed signal out.
