    Quattro Sport S1E2

(Is it S1E2 or S1E1 for the big winged monster?????)

I have been trawling the interwebs for the past month or so trying to find details on the Quattro Sport S1E2 rally cars. I like detail!!!! I have been trying to find details (and facts!) about all areas of these cars but the internet is full of websites that have clearly just copied and pasted info from elsewhere and pretty much just give top level info only. There appears to be more guesswork and misinformation on these cars than any other I have research

Anybody know exactly what gearbox these cars ran? I mean the standard manual box not the super-dooper dual clutch jobbie. Was it a standard unit with uprated internals (which model) or was it a custom Audi motorsport piece? It was 6 speed yes?

Same with the diff. Standard (model?) or one-off?

The engine was all alloy. Again, was this all based on production stuff (particularly the head) or was it motorsport specific castings (I have read info that appears to suggest the alloy blocks were from a small casting run of 40 'specials').

I have looked around for the homologation papers but cannot find any (don't really want to pay for them if I can avoid it).

Bear in mind here that I have not seen a Quattro (road or rally) in the flesh for 30 years as that is when I left the UK. I am at a total loss regarding the various model codes etc so try not to bamboozal me with jargon!!!!

Bought a few books lately but they have not arrived yet.

Also been investigating the costs of importing an 80 2 door and a Quattro (is that one called a 90???) into Australia to do a cut and shut build.

Any facts or directions to info sources gratefully appreciated.

You will be looking for a coupe quattro type 85 and a 2-door Audi 80. If you haven't found a 2-door 80 yet I should be able to help you out. Will receive one next week.

Still investigating import costs so not ready to deal just yet - looks like it would be stupid expensive bring 2 cars/shells in! Does the type 85 have to be a quattro or could the Coupe GT (fwd???) be used?

i think you need the front of a 2-door audi 80 b2( up to and including the b-pilar) and the rear from a coupe quattro b2 (typ 85). a gt will no do because the trunk is bigger so you have no room for diff underneath
        audi coupe quattro b2 2.2 20vt project (573hp-626nm)
        TWINCHARGED power,zero lag

Carsales has an audi 90 5cyl quattro for sale at the moment and a ANN engine with a few bits, would have it myself only one expensive habit at a time is enough (urs6)

This is where my knowledge of the various models falls in a heap. The Audi 90 was a replacement for the 80? I would therefore assume the 2 are not interchangeable for my purposes?

You need a 2-door, a 4-door 80 or 90 is no good or at least requires extra work and sourcing doors from a 2-door 80...

That would be very good, but they don't exist.

                        Welcome to the S2Forum!!!

I guess you have seen Malcolm's sport Quattro build that is underway in Australia.

                        The 3 cars you need to buy are;

No.1 An Audi 80 2 Door typ85, this will form the front end of your sportquattro.
This is what one looks like...
                        http://m.mobile.de/portal/index.html#Car/DES/187526232

No.2 An Audi coupe quattro or an Audi UR quattro, this will form the rear end of your sportquattro.
The coupe quattros are much cheaper to buy than a UR quattro and it is considered bad karma to chop up a UR quattro.
                        Both models shown below...
                        Coupe quattro
                        http://m.mobile.de/portal/index.html#Car/DES/197949572
The UR quattro, which there are 3 variants and Are all turbo.
The are known by their engine codes and they are in order of production
                        The WR 10v turbo
                        The MB 10v turbo
                        The RR 20v turbo
If you purchased a RR you would not have to buy the 3rd car as you could use all the running gear from this car...
                        http://m.mobile.de/portal/index.html#Car/DES/194570505
Another way to tell the difference from a coupe to a UR is the UR has larger blistered wings front and rear.

No. 3 an Audi S2 coupe.
This is to be used for all the running gear.
There are 2 models also known by the engine code
                        A 3B 20v turbo distributor driven
An ABY 20v turbo coil pack driven

Then you need to get mega busy with the grinder, welder and every other fabrication tool you can imagine.

To give you a rough idea of the work involved even for a road car version see my Facebook album

Or you can buy an original road car...
                        http://m.mobile.de/portal/index.html#Car/DES/193639680

Or you can buy a replica S1E2
                        http://m.mobile.de/portal/index.html#Car/DES/39338780

                        I hope that helps....

If you need any further information feel free to ask....

Thanks fellas for all the help. I just received a quote to ship 2 cars from the US for AUD$3800 (about GBP2000). Not nearly as bad as I thought but then I am unsure what duties are paid to the Aussie Govt on top of that.

Been having a good look at every thread I can find. The fab work doesn't faze me too much although is more extensive than I have done before. Been in touch with MalCol already re his project - good bloke.
