I have a trade policy Paul. They just asked if I had a garage for repair work or selling cars. I told them I have a garage and I'm a part time mechanic and service some cars in my free time. As I do all the family's cars and some friends I'm not fibbing. Never been a problem.

Cheers - I will have to look into that next time around. The description you give above is pretty much same as my situation so should be good enough.

I dont blame you bud. i always get a hiked price from my insurance company even when said company are forum sponsors... I then have to spend time on the phone sorting it out which really irritates me. I look forward to being able to get the price down on my policy to similar to yours lol. Im surprised it isnt already lower seeing as im almost 30!

On a positive note, my beetle fully comp only used to cost me £101. I was trying to get it to £99 just to say i was paying less than £100 but no amount of pleading worked lol

LOL!!! I remember when i first bought my S2 back in 2000 it cost more than all my 3 cars now to insure and i still 3-4 cars at the time I suppose its one of the advantages of growing older you get slightly cheaper car insurance

I think Gaz's problem might be insuring cars in Manchester. I lived there for 6months about 13yrs ago. I had to sell the car as the insurance costs were beyond prohibitive. Mind you, I was a student trying to insure an old nail in an M1 postcode. It was a good thing really as I couldn't afford baked beans let alone fuel, running costs and insurance ha ha. These days, with the car tucked away in a garage in leafy Oxfordshire, insurance costs are no issue.

I was playing golf with a young lad the other day who had recently passed his test. He had one of those black box things in his car (an 07 plated Fiesta petrol) and was paying over £2k insurance. I was gobsmacked. Did make me think how he afforded that, let alone the car. My first car was £300. Kids get it too easy these days or maybe he was just an exception.
