when jimmy was just an old guy with a weird hairdo and a cigar

been decidedly audi-free lately, medz - was out in the tub today to tesco and that's about it. the quattro is still languishing in the local garage where the mechanics are very tentatively trying to remove the crank position sensor without shearing it in the gearbox!!

how's the cowp going?? is that timing belt settled in at last?

sorry you missed that era over here, mark - it was quite an experience for the ears and the mind of a young teenager back then. bear in mind that i was used to listening to the likes of the james last orchestra and whatever wogan had to offer on the old man's ford cortina radio!!

Brilliant mate! Superb! Love it! I will reply later on with an equally suitable picture though frankly with not such a cool car. Must go to bed been up while house is quiet sorting out my Audi files/test drives/profiles all paper as preferable to digital in my book.

Some style there with the coat! What year was that?

And what gets me today is youngish guys think it's cool to have their trousers hanging of their hips with their crutch region hanging around their knees so they can't walk properly.I mean hello Whats that all about?

First time I heard a ur quattro live at the RAC special stage at Trentham gardens, when my dad took me there.
I wanted one ever since then and had to wait until the age of 30 for a quattro, although the 1.9 gt coupe I had at 18 made up for it a little.
My dad's V12 Jaguar XJ coupe being fired for the first time (on open headers) after he rebuilt it from a 7 year sleep in a scrap yard.
First fire up of my V8 Capri I built when I was 22 (again open headers- built a test rig and fired it in the drive one night-huge flames from the manifolds!)
BMW (hide) e30 325i and a TVR 350 that used to race past my house every night(I'd open my bedroom window so I could watch them leave the junction further up the road)
First Iron Miaden gig I went too-although I was deaf in one ear for 3 days after!
Favourite sound now is my kids laughing (instead of falling out !)

i think that must have been taken in the late 80s, mark. that capri was just about the fastest thing on the road back then as you rarely encountered anything turbocharged. i can remember getting challenged by a white lada riva (!!) at the traffic lights once, who gunned his engine and pointed to the traffic lights. i burst out laughing but not for long as he level pegged me to the next roundabout and i had to take the wrong exit to avoid the embarrassment of being blown away by such a crap car!! i caught up with him again and said, "what's under the bonnet?!!" to which he replied, "fiat twin cam, ya bas!!"

Just listened to this lot (prob 1st time in more years than I care to remember!), and I'd forgotten just how much I actually liked Depeche Mode. I was a van driver in the early 80's (and in my early 20's) and had the radio on (275/285 Mw) all day long.

Anyone remember 'Steve Wright in the Afternoon' from back in the 80's?? Now there was one funny guy! (Damian the Social Worker, Sid the Manager, Jervais the Hairdresser, The Horrible Voice.........)

Sadly i was Awol and missed Depech Mode but kinda made up for it a little later one.I remember Steve Wright in the Afternoon and his Radio Jingle but not sure what year that came about. In 1982/83 i used to listen to the pirate radio station 'Radio Horizon' to get my fix. Radio one charts never figured in London Club music There are Loads and don't have the time so a random quick put together.

Rubbish picture but it was my first car only bought 2 months before this photo was taken June 16th 1984 with a 4lb chub. Any car aficionado will be able to tell what it is?

a nice mk3 cortina indeed! you look too young to have owned such a sales rep car back then!!

here's some sounds from my youth - back then we lived on the flight path to glasgow airport and the racket from BA's one elevens and tridents was almost an hourly occurrence. i can remember dad having to turn the telly up to hear it!!

Yes just 18 and it was cheap from my Nan.First drive of it was from Conway N Wales all the way back to Harrow Along the A5 about 250 miles.

Strewth......that sounds more like a military jet!

This one was pretty awesome and it once flew directly over my house not that long before it was taken out of service and we are not in the flight path! By sheer fluke i managed to see her coming into land at Heathrow in 1986 in the Mk5 2.0 Ghia she was litterally 100ft above my head and i got a full 180 degree view as she went from my right to left. I heard her before i saw her!

a nice tale from yesteryear, mark

my old pal, bill flew concorde over the irish sea from prestwick, many moons ago when he was invited to take the controls after being invited aboard for a jolly across the pond.

those 9/11 c**ts have a lot to answer for, for the ridiculous world we find ourselves in today where we are all scrutinised and strangled to the enth degree over even the most basic travel arrangements!!!!

society needs far more genuine heroes like bill . .
