Tips for transporting a car from Ire to the UK.

It's looking like I'm going to need to collect a car from southern Ireland next month and though it's in good mechanical condition it's not taxed or MOT'd so driving it back is most likely out of the question, even on trade plates it would be pushing ones luck.

The car is in Cork and I'm in south Wales so there's crossings from either Pembroke or Fishgaurd to Rosslare, there was one from Swansea too Cork which would have been ideal.

Currently thinking of hiring a Transit based car transporter for ease and safety.

    Anyone got any advice?

Just a thought, does anyone know if I can get a UK tax disc with an Irish MOT?

Nice one, it'll be well worth your effort and expense.

Photos of the actual journey in due course.

If you need anything in Dublin, bed, food, tools, parts etc. or need a hand, give me a shout no worries. Happy to help, and meet you again.

Should have been £180 for 2 days with 500 mile allowance, but I screwed them down as it broke down and I had to repair it on the side of the M6 in the snow
They were a good firm and despite the break down the vehicle was very good - well equipped with a good remote controllled winch and good quality ratchet straps, pretty comfortable and good on fuel.

          Hire it from here: http://www.transporterhire.co.uk/

Is this for Eric's ABY Kit?

Yeah I've been sizing up those sort of Transit based transporters, they look like a pretty good deal and it's loads safer than a trailer.

No it's not for Eric's ABY, it is a car that lives very close to it though

Cheers for the offer Dave, not sure I'll be passing your way but I'll give you a shout if I am.

Currently checking out ferry costs, it's starts to get quite expensive with a car transporter, I've only been checking Fishguard to Rosslare though. I'm going to look at my options if I were to sail from Anglesey then do a bit more driving in southern Ireland, I'm right in thinking Diesel is cheap over there?

A suitable car and a hired good car transporter trailer may be a cheaper option than a car transporter van as regards ferry rates.

The truth does not always make sense.

                      Worth checking to see.

                      Regards.

I picked up an elise last year from Dublin to Holyhead. Car and trailor is/was the cheapest way.

                          It was still ~£320 though.

That's much better than the £600 odd quotes I was getting for a car transporter.

                            Who did you book/sail with?
