I've been communicating with a potential RS2 seller. The seller sent many photos and images of documentation. Having never owned an RS2, the most important photo seems suspect to me. Even the rivets look stranger. Or, is this normal ware?
Finally, should the build tag be in the spare wheel well area?
well its a repainted car so maby the tag in the back is missing..
the chasis number is in the middle of the firewall..
why does it have a dent over the plate and why it was so badly painted that even the plate is covered in paint??

I can't guarantee that that metal build tag was affixed to the that shell when it left Porsche's Zuffenhausen factory but I can say that the metal tag looks legit (rivets not withstanding).
Here is what a real tag with proper rivets looks like:
The build tag should have been in the spare well but that one has obviously been repainted (and badly at that, based on the poor masking done over the ARGE plate) and the factory didn't waste that much paint in a hidden area like the wheel well - how much rust are they trying to hide?). There is also a square build tag in the warranty book which should still be with this vehicle. If it isn't I would run away.
Correct, the car has been restored. In looking at that plate, I was under the impression it was chipped. But on closer inspection it’s paint like you said… Would you know of a good image showing the center firewall number? The seller and I don’t really speak the same language. I found one but it's not so hot..
Thank you for the guidance!! I used some of those images you posted to determine what I was dealing with. I will ask about the booklet sticker. Although, if I were to paint a car, I would want to keep the important wheel well info.. So rust as you mentioned, or something else stopped them from covering it.
And it's not a common thing to paint the trunk.. There should be no rust as it's sealed good.. Don't really know why one would paint the interior. Well unless a change of color
