    Walbro 255 fitting problem.

I bought the following pump believing that it is based on a walbro 225, as in the listing.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370963015617
I thought this pump would be pretty much plug and play as it's smaller than the original, so just needs packed out a little in the tank... However the chap fitting it is really struggling.

Have I bought the wrong one? Should I just go down there, get the car back and sort it myself? I have a pile of RS2 stuff to fit, but wanted someone 'professional' to do the fuel pump for me.

    Any help or guidance appreciated.

It even shows the neoprene sleeve that is required because its diameter is less than the OE 43 mm.

    a) the price seems too cheap to be a real Walbro

    b) have you seen this (it's for a C4 but will be similar to B4):

    RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan
    94 UrS4 V8 6 spd manual avant

Thanks for the help Dave, I'll have a read over the weekend. I'll ask them to reassemble the original and I'll have a bash or send it to a proper garage.

It's not a real Walbro, but a 'improved' fuel pump, built into a 255 shell. PRJ has used similar to good effect by all accounts.

I can't see why they are struggling, it sounds like it should just drop in... They may need more packing, but not rocket science ?

I just want to be sure it should fit

the walbro is not as wide as the 044. its very much like a aby pump. if rs2 is like that then it should fit in. if its a little slack should be an easy fix to be honest.

i found biggest issue was removing the basket from the tank. get pretty tight in there.

So I'm in the middle of fitting the walbro pump following this guide. I have everything out, but I don't seem to have the plastic Bosch sleeve that goes into the pump basket.

          Can I buy this separately?

          This is what I have
          Do I need

It appears I have a VDO pump, does anyone have an old Bosch pump with the sleeve?
