Water Pump Help Needed - 7a

    Hi all,

All ready to change the cambelt on my 7a today, new belt, idler, water pump, coolant change all planned, but .......

The water pump I bought from ECP doesn't seem to be the right one, at least I don't think it is.

It's a KWP pump and I have checked the part number references on their website and it all ties up however the tooth profile is completely different to the old pump.

It's hard to tell with the pump off the car, but the new belt (Contitech which looks just like the old one) doesn't seem to engage properly with the teeth on the pump.

The teeth on the old pump look 'sharper' the new pump seems to have flat profile teeth.

I have included some pics to illustrate my point.

Has any one else experienced this ?

Do I have the wrong pump or will all be OK when tension is applied to the belt ?

Any help / clarification greatly appreciated !!!!

    Thanks,

    Martin

    that's an earlier 10v pump.

You need the later pump for the supertorque belt

This has got me thinking?? When I did the belt, pump etc I seem to think there was a difference in the pump. The teeth on the belt fitted ok to the pump but there was a bit of movement. I assumed it was a "superseded" pump.

Thanks Mike, I've got one of James's(terrybullwon) steel crank pulleys to fit soon so will recheck the pump pulley teeth.

            Cheers.
