You've got that right, went there yesterday and depressing is exactly what I thought of it and remembered someone said that on this thread! It's especially depressing looking for something on street view and moving between a photo from 2007 and one from 2015 in one click - nice old victorian buildings just become a pile of rubble re-appropriated as a car park.

Haha, I looked at this thread wondering if I'd posted on it. No surprise Chch hasn't really changed, I don't often make it further than Hornby if I visit now, the centre is just a sad state. I had to laugh when I read my post back as I'm now living in Arrowtown, just outside Queenstown. I still standby what I said though and **** do certain tourists annoy me. It has a lot to offer, I just try and enjoy the places where people aren't!

Are you living in NZ now then? How are you finding it?

No I've been here on holiday since the 7th, going home the day after ANZAC day. I've been going round Otago - went to see a couple stages of Otago Rally on my first weekend here and did my first bungy jump when I was in Queenstown

I just went up to Chchchchchc yesterday for a job interview which was, frankly, a waste my time. I stayed overnight so I had a bit of time to wander through the city and had a conversation this morning with a recruiter what it was like when the 2011 earthquake hit. Frightening stuff.

You should've said you were down here! You've probably seen more than I have in 2 years of being here anyway. I'm not a big fan of cities in NZ in general, I'll stick to the small towns. You should get a working holiday visa if you want to experience working here without making any commitment, it's easy to find work and companies are very good at helping you to do well. The pay isn't anything special though.

I might have to do that, there's been so many places I've seen while driving through and thought "I need to come back here on a holiday". Top of that list is Alexandra and cycle along the Otago rail trail.
