Apologies for thread location, but for some reason i cant post in for sale section.
For Sale 1992 Audi S2 ‘ABY’ Avant – Laser Red -197,000 miles
Spec: Cloth ‘Quattro’ trim, ‘Carbon’ trim inserts, Sunroof, No roof rails.
Owned by myself since 2007 & has been used as a daily driver until last year, the car is completely standard apart from the later model head lights that I added.
Mechanically it’s as very sound, lots of history (A4 binder’s worth) came with the car,
Work completed in my ownership:
In last 12 months:
- Cylinder Head rebuild, replaced stem seals, re ground all valves, re built with all new gaskets + I replaced all accessible (knock, oil temp, water temp etc.) sensors including the all-important cam position sensor + Cam belt + water pump.
Other work (that I can remember):
- Top shock mounts renewed.
- Lower arm bushes replaced.
- Radiator / Oil cooler replaced.
- Coil Packs replaced.
- 2 POS ignition units.
- Power Steering Pump
- N75 solenoid.
- Thermostat.
- Heater fan.
- Central locking pump.
- Fuel Pump
- Fuel gauge sender unit.
- + all normal service items (several times over)
Known Issues:
Body work
It polishes up well but doesn’t stand up to close inspection. It’s got various ‘age related’ marks all over, in my eyes the main issues are:
- I replaced the front wings (the originals had gone through on the arches) the replacements match up fine colour wise but have a few minor / bents that could do with sorting.
- Front bumper, it’s never been repainted and has 23 years of road rash + it’s a mark from a wall argument on drivers side front edge.
- Rear wings – Rust patches at rear bumper interface, although looking to get these sorted.
Mechanical Issues
- 1st Gear whine, if you’ve done any research on ABY engine S2’s you’ll know this is a common problem. It’s had the issue since I purchased the car in 2007, it’s never got any worse in the 30K + miles I’ve done, otherwise the gearbox works fine.
- Air Con, it’s never worked in my ownership. The Air Con rad was shot when I purchased the car, I’ve got a good unit (which I’ve never got round to fitting) which will come with the car.
Other
- Pealing on main instrument dials, again a typical issue on S2’s.
- LCD bleed on ambient temperature / computer display.
- External Lower door trim strips, none are perfect, driver’s door is worst.
Reason for sale, I’m now commuting 50miles per day, running a 22mpg 24 year old car isn’t economical or sensible.
Note: I have the correct colour wheel + headlight washers to fit.
