    Subaru Engine?

I know there is a lot of general mechanical and general car knowledge on here, so I hope someone can help.
My friends Subaru Impreza engine let go on Saturday leaving the bottom end FUBAR'd.
The obvious thing to tell him is to buy an Audi, but failing that, can anyone advise where to buy a new/ good condition engine for a good price.
    Many thanks.

If the block & crank is OK I would suggest its better to rebuild than buy a random used engine you don't know the history of.
TBH the cars are so cheap, i might be better just to break it and buy another one

Funnily enough, the exact same thing happened to our old Legacy GTB after we sold it (thankfully). If he's planning on keeping it I would go with Alex's suggestion otherwise shove a used engine in and get rid. They really are shockingly tinny and temperamental!

Weird I had two impreza's back in the day, did 63K in one and 40K in the other and never had an issue.

Subaru engines are designed to die, worst car ever made for sport.

+1... I heard every 60k miles would need a rebuild

i had a subaru 2.0 wrx from 2004,when i bought it,the rod bearings ware gone
put an new 2.5 sti engine block back in,those engines are much better
nice car and a great sound but not reliable
if you go for an other engine, choose for a 2.5 sti !!!
