You're bloody mad! Stay away from both and buy a Land Cruiser!

Anything with a Land Rover badge our of warranty is trouble especially Disco 2+3's!

Absolutely agree with above. With D3 unless someone spend a lot of money on it already, you have to be prepared for a lot problems.Air suspension compressor, springs, electrics issues(corroded harness)lower arms, front wheel bearings, electronic park brake module, rusty brake lines front to rear, leaks from transfer box, slipping chain in transfer box, turbo issues,EGR valves and a lot more.If I have to go for one I would go for D2 but owning them before and working every day ,I would avoid both and go for Toyota or Nissan.

Cheers for the above!! I guess when your buying any vehicle you have to be careful and get it checked thoroughly especially when they are getting old? I do have a soft spot for the Disco 2 as they look well built and would be easier to maintain then a D3?

Hi Terry,if by the latest ,you mean Disco 4 then my answer is,they better then D3 but still cousing problems. Now insted 2.7 single turbo, you will find 3.0 twin turbo (vacuum controlled )and this system cousing more problems then single turbo, however the performance of the car is really impressive compare to 2.7
To me really scary part about Discovery 4 is that i replaced many engines because they seized solid
Other bad points, oil leaks, from oil pump, engine sump, unable to read oil level as there is no more dipstic , instead they used ultrasonic sensor . To replace it,you need to take sump off witch means you need to dismantle front suspension, remove front diff etc. not a 5 min.job.
Front and rear lowe arms bushes still bad point, front wheel bearings still bad,EPB still a problem.
Air suspension is better as in the latest D3 harness have been modified and on D4 its not so much of a trouble but old Hitachi compressor replaced with AMK is still failing.
Battery drain can be a problem as well ,often its touch screen or audio amplifier not going to sleep and replacing this it's not cheap .
But on the positive side ,EGR valves are alot better on them
Im sure there is many D3,D4s witch is driving without any faults but all above defects(and many more i forgot right now)is not something unusual ,its something i see almost every day and its enough for me to stay away from them
Taking body off if you have access to two poster ramp its not a big problem, its only about 3h to remove it

                Hi Piotr,

given your negative experiences of the Land Rovers, what alternative vehicles do you think Anthony should consider ?

Just idly curious, no axe to grind.

Hi buddy. Its all depends what you want to use that vehicle for?
If you just thinking about off roading then I would go for Discovery 1 200 or 300 Tdi.
With few extra bits like ARB air locking diffs ,upgraded suspension and big wheels it's fantastic off road tool but I don't think that is the case here.
I would seriously consider Toyota Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol.
But as I said it's all depends what will be the purpose of the vehicle.
