    Insuring a Cat C S2???

    Hi

So, after trying to put it out of my mind (and failing) I have decided to look into buying Avantus's S2 Avant.

I still have not found a house with a garage but there will be some other solution storage wise short term and I am all too aware how infrequently cars of this quality become available.

I have just tried to get some quotes and was shocked at just the one company that would quote for wait for it over £10k ha ha ha. I am 35 with 12 yrs no claims and previously insured my S2 Coupe with very similar upgrades in terms of wheels, turbos's, chips, brakes blah blah. Admittedly, I did an insurance comparison rather than contacting specialists but I have done this before on my Coupe and always disclosed all the mods and never had an issuing finding a few competitive quotes around the £300-£500 mark. Either the comparison websites do things differently or the Cat C marker is an issue.

So, should I be speaking to specialists or is the Cat C tag having an adverse affect on insurance? I don't give a monkeys about the Cat C from a purchase and driving point of view but ovvo £10k to insure a car is prohibitive ha ha.

    Cheers for any thoughts.

    Andrew

If i was you i would speak to the companies pick a handful to choose from and then speak instead of doing it online might help with the premium but considering your age and NCD 10k is bloody ridiculous!!! Good luck with it. I just got insured on mine with Performance Direct £120 a year garaged and 16 years NCD.

Hmmm, I am just thinking the Cat C has something to do with it. The comparison only gave one quote. When I used to insure my Coupe this way, it would always come back with quite a few. I cannot recall exactly but I think the last year I insured the S2, it was around 300quid. I will try some of the specialists and see what they say. Something just seems amiss to me. The only thing that has changed is that the vehicle is a Cat C. Everything else is basically the same (apart from having another years NCD)

Will try Flux and the others when I get some time but it is always a faff going through it all manually. Needs must though. There is a serious BHP deficit in my life that needs seriously addressing.

ok so I just did an insurance quote for a Noble M12 GTO 3R for a laugh to see what would happen.

plenty of well known companies are prepared to give cover for between £380-£430 and the value of the vehicle is £35k compared to £9k (not that I think the value matters to much, prob more the damage you could to others)

Anyhow, I think the Cat C is an issue. I thought it was a little odd. Will try a mate in the week who works for a broker to see what he says.

A mate had a cat C, made no difference to insurance at all -go to a broker, try Academy Insurance, they know how to get a good policy...

My old rs2 was cat C and I paid 500 through Kwik fit insurance at the time. I suppose its all the mods that are jacking the price up?

Yeah guessing you are right about the mods but my last s2 insurance quotes were very similar in terms of disclosing mods such as bigger turbo, exhaust, chips, wheels etc etc. Never had quotes for 10k haha.

It's a lively motor but nothing spectacular enough to warrant £10,000 insurance their off their heads phone Sky

My current insurer said that unless the mods push the car over 40% of its rated power, it doesn't result in much of a premium hike (at least, under their policies)
