I'm thinking of getting some sort of toy to do a few timed runs etc. for a bit of fun.
Are the android apps you can download any good?
There are several Hardware versions. Thought about maybe G-Tech but cannot find a uk seller or on Ebay. If go down this route, which is best one to get.
Sample rate over the phone is not good enough for reliable results. You get somewhat consistent results over for say, a lap on track, but for performance measurement, You need a lot more samples than the app things can do.
So at the moment I think You'd be better off with a standalone one, although I do understand they are a bit more, moneywise.
I do have a Race Technology AX22, I could part from, for a reasonable price. Although it is not the latest and the greatest, it is very reliable, and uses both GPS and G-sensors, and give very good accuracy. BUT only when viewed with the analysis software on computer. On internal screen the numbers are way off.
I think vbox is better in that regard.
If You think You might one day invest in to a gopro as well, then it might be worth it to check out devices like AIM Smartycam, so You can have video, with speed and acceleration data.
On App part, I am not sure where the apps that come with an OBD gizmo, are at the momebnt, but Harry's Lap Timer was very nice for the money a few years back, if You plan to record tracdays and such.
Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspirated
The VBox is almost double the money of a G-Tech.
Latest technology is not always the main consideration, but ease of use ie. standalone.
Also be good to have real driving figures like 30-50, 50-70, etc
Will try and look up your machine, but maybe a bit technical
I bought a qstarz 5hz GPS unit and linked it to racechrono on my phone. They're at 10 Hz now. £50 all in and is good enough for that money. Sure, for proper accuracy, you need something that's designed for the job.

I've got one of the newer 10Hz ones, but they don't do Racechrono for the Iphone so I'm trying to use the software that comes with it and it's not the most user friendly

Sorry meant to say I have the performance box. Vbox is more technical. However the performance box also has the 10hz processing ability and is more than enough for either power measurements or racing
