rs2 key coding

This is the part of the story that is doing my head in.
The coding isn't something that the owner does. It has to be done at dealership, based on the VIN of the vehicle in question. Not sure why that wasn't clear to the original poster.

Hi Dave,
Just to add to your woes.
Do you have a description of how to "un-confuse" a programmed key for the last of the UrS6 cars where it does not have the infra red cover on the outside of the B pillar.
It worked fine and then stopped working. It is a one year old key , so it and it's battery are fresh. Having said that I will double check the battery just to be sure.
Sorry for this as I'm sure it is already on here somewhere.
Thank you.

Programming the 1995.5 and later Radio Frequency Keyless Remotes
Note: This is NOT the procedure for infrared remotes.
================================================== ====
"Here's how to get all the remotes to lock and unlock the doors. Which key goes where does not matter, since we're reprogramming the remotes, not the keys (keys are not programmable, anyway). There is no correlation between key and remote, except for the prestige <g> of having the lighted key.
You will need:
* All radio frequency remotes, with good batteries. Simplest is to replace the batteries with new ones. I used Duracell DL2032.
* Two keys. Coincidentally, the lighted key uses one 625 watch/camera battery, and bulb p/n N 902 625 01.
------------------------------------------------------
1) Put one key in the ignition, and turn to "On", dash lights lit, but car not running. Get out and close the driver's door. Might not be a bad idea to roll down the driver's window, to ensure you don't lock yourself out (you can't really, but it does give some peace of mind)!
2) Put the other key in the driver's door lock.
3) Lock the car with the key in the driver's door.
4) Press both buttons on the first remote until car unlocks. This should take about 5 seconds.
5) Set the remote aside, and select the next remote.
Note: Do NOT turn the ignition off between remotes.
6) Lock the car again with the key in the driver's door.
7) Press both buttons on the next remote until car unlocks.
8) If you have more than two remotes, repeat 6) and 7) with each succeeding remote until done.
9) Turn the ignition off and remove the key.
The remotes should now all work. They should each lock and unlock the car.
================================================== ====
Here's how to get the remotes to invoke the appropriate stored seat memory position.
You will need:
* All radio frequency remotes, as above.
* Seat memory buttons programmed to desired settings.
------------------------------------------------------
10) Select the remote you want to invoke seat memory position one.
11) With the ignition off, open the driver's door, and leave it open.
12) Press seat memory button one, and wait for the seat and mirror to move to the stored position.
13) With the driver's door still open, lock the car by pressing the lock button on the remote. The car will lock, except for the driver's door.
14) Press and hold the seat memory button one.
15) Press and release the unlock button on the remote.
16) When the car unlocks, release seat memory button one. The first remote is now programmed to both lock and unlock, and to invoke seat memory position one. Set it aside as completed.
17) Repeat 12) through 16), using the appropriate seat memory button, until you've programmed each of your remotes.
You have completed programming all your radio frequency remotes to invoke the appropriate seat memory position.
================================================== ====
You can test success as follows:
18) Close the driver's door. Lock the car using remote one. The car should lock.
19) Unlock car using remote one. The car should unlock.
20) Open the door. The seat and driver's door rearview should move to memory position one.
21) Repeat 18), 19) and 20) with each succeeding remote.
Ta da! You should be in business! "RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

There is a process you can do on VAGCOM but at some point you need some kind of special code for IMMO key coding... I have the factory docs on this somewhere but I won't post it publicly for obvious reasons. Shoot me a PM to remind me and I will send what I can find.Paul Nugent

Just to check though - did your new key from Audi come with an IMMO transponder in the body or is just a plain key ?
The car will have been supplied with some IMMO code number from Audi that you will need in the coding process - typically as a 4-digit code printed on a tag attached to the key ring.
Hopefully that is noted somewhere - otherwise only Audi will have it in their records against the VIN etc.Paul Nugent

The method is already in public domain - but the crucial info you need is the 4-digit code supplied with the car.
<snip>
Immobilizer Generation 1
Keys for vehicles with Immobilizer 1 usually have a small F on the key blade, which stands for Festcode (Fixed Code). Immobilizer 1 Vehicles were sold in the Rest of World (RoW) Market only, not in the North American Region (NAR). If in doubt, check the Factory Repair Manual for your specific Vehicle.
Immobilizer 1 can also be identified via the Immobilizer Identification/Serial Number. All VW, Seat and Skoda Immobilizer 1 Serial Numbers contain 3Z (for Example VWZ3Z0S1101234), if you see something else there it is unlikely you have this Generation at hand. Audi models as well as the early VW Passat (3B) may show different Serial Numbers, so this does NOT apply to these models.
</snip>
EDIT - The Audi IMMO-1 should start with 'AUZ9Z' in that serial number on the controller.

Timpson were able to supply me with a new Audi 80 key with an immobilizer for about £40, they needed the original key to read it, then they had to order the little glass tube as they did not have one in stock.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon
