    cash4cars ? Autotrader offer?

Hi... am selling my Golf TDi 170 ... and have it advertised on Autotrader for £6k.

I've had a couple of texts from Cash4cars offering me £5,750.. it says once you agree, they will send round an "agent'.

Has anyone got experience of cash4cars please?? I assumed they offered rock bottom prices to desperate people .... I wonder if they send someone round who looks the car over and says "sorry guv... I can only give you £4,000")

    Any experience on here?

    cheers

Dont deal with them. It is a con and they will try to get you to pay them.a deposit prior to an "agent" turning up. The proper cash for cars people operate by you asking for a valaution. It is then normally knocked down bit by bit for each tiny mark they can find. Stick with private ads and wait for a genuine buyer. Autotrader is typical outlet for unsolicited crap like this. Good luck

Used to do a little buying and selling a while back, did shift one to them that I couldn't move so gave em a try . They'll always give bottom book and then still knock more off for scuffed alloys, dinks and marks etc.. They play on fact that some people are desperate to shift a motor sharpish so they use this to drive the money down but offer money in the bank v quick without the hassle of tyre kickers etc.

Tried em once but wouldn't use again tbh, and the ad on TV makes em out that they're doing you the favour !

Would agree with the comments above.

People who are desperate to sell will accept a lower price, which is where they can 'capitalise'.

Same as buying stuff in a convenience store late at night, rather than in a big supermarket during the day.

If it's too good to be true it probably is........

No free lunches in this world........

Companies need to make a profit, so as mentioned cut out the middle man, and sell it yourself and hopefully you don't have too many tyre kickers or test pilots.

Ok, I'm probably Not gonna earn myself any friends after this, but .....

I'm in the touring caravan business (proper franchised, Main Street Dealership), and I also buy and sell. Just like the Motor Trade, we also use the Glass' Guide as our Bible.
Now we're not a charity, so we need to make a profit and consequently try to buy at Trade (bottom book) and sell for Retail (top book). Bear in mind that as a well known south west dealership; we also incur workshop costs, and must Warrant everything we sell, new or used. This is how the industry works,

I know that there are plenty of companies out there who will offer you close to Retail for your Item over the phone, then when you've turned down everyone else who has contacted you over the next 24 hours, their agent turns up at your door with Cash, and promptly comes up with a list of 'Faults' valued at hundreds/thousands, using his Shark-like negotiation techniques to 'steal' your pride and joy for less than the Trade value.

Now I'm not defending or criticising what these companies do, as in any walk of life there are the Good Guys (Us) and the Bad Guys, so please don't judge Whoever just because he offers you Trade value for your car. I regularly suggest to customers whose own valuation of their pride and joy part-ex is unrealistic (saying that 'There are loads of them for sale at £....') that it may well be better for them to sell privately, then come to me to buy their new unit with No p/x.

In reality- if we buy your p/x at retail, what can we sell it for?? Above Retail.... I don't think so , so how does the dealer pay his wages?

There we are; I've said it now- I just hope the Moderators don't cancel my membership

                    No issue with this.

The alternative is more effort which you will be financially rewarded for the extra effort of selling yourself and buying yourself, if you don't want to make the effort then by selling / part exchanging with the dealer then they do / deserve to make the profit.

But if you want the most for your second hand vehicle sell it privately and get a cash discount with the new car.

                    The choice is yours.

In the end they will offer you half what you are currently asking, be patient and wait for the right private buyer.
