a friend of mine managed to strip the keyway on the crank of his audi 80 1.9tdi 1z for the 2nd time now so rather than fix the 1z he is looking for a direct replacement..
does anyone have any experience of fitting the early a4 tdi etc engines? it needs to be a direct bolt in.
cheers
Hi Sam, I have a complete AHU bottom end out of an early a4 in good nik. This with the 1Z cyl head would do the job as the parts are interchangeable. Hope this is of some help.
Regards,
Nev.
Why swap heads? Almost all of the engine is identical, ecu is different and some turbos on certain years are different but neglieable. Friend of mine also has a full passat AHU in storage im sure can be had for peanuts
But to answer the question the engine will go in no problem so long as it has the earlier type ecu itll be plug and play. Afn will use vnt turbo and more modern boost control but is very straight forward
I don't mind swapping injection pump or even turbo etc aslong as the manifolds etc will swap over and mainly that the engine mounting points are the same.. He actually has a a4 1.9tdi in the pipeline off his brother so hopefully good to go. Cheers
