Anyone got auto box for B4 2.6?

As above a friend just bought a 2.6 B4 Avant for his wife and after only 5 days the auto gearbox won't go into reverse. Anyone have a good spare box and or can throw some light on this. Cheers.

Change the fluid and replace the filter anyway, just in case if helps, but see what others say is the 'reverse' fault first before you do so.

You'll need to read about the procedure on how to determine how much fluid to fill the box with.

    Best wishes.

Hi, its had a fluid change recently but using a non gen filter, since then the box has been slow to engage in D and R then finally, it just didnt in R. After a while it engages D.
Funny thing is, it will creep back sometimes if you left foot brake.

Also, took the car today to an auto specialist, they said it needs a rebuild at £1500 + vat

On 'small' expense items such as filters, it is best to remember not to cheap out especially when an auto box filter is such a big deal to change.

It is now not definite one way or the other if the spurious filter is a contributing factor or not.

A decent second hand auto box with an newly fitted oem filter and new oem fluid will be cheaper than a rebuilt auto box for €1,500.00 especially when the car is not a quattro S car.

What you ideally need is to be able to effect a inexpensive Wheeler Dealer type fix as per Ed China.

The person we bought the car from changed the fluid, using non oe filter, ever since then it started the hesitation/lag. Also another 2.6 car/owner did the same job at the same time also using a pattern filter, his auto box died before this one!

Problem is we both have no spare time, its now a pretty much worthless car so i dont want to spend a lot on it, but we need a car on the road so probably have to buy another. The future is not looking bright for this one at the moment. Just such a shame an otherwise really nice car!
If I can find a cheapish box I can get it fitted so its up and running in a week or so but it seems they are thin on the ground.
The rush is because at the moment its the only Auto we have and driving a manual is hurting other halfs back.
