I saw one broken down in a Tescos car park once. It was a nice car and we were there to see the recovery truck come to take it away. Thing is once the battery's flat none of the services work, so you can't even get in. They have trick electric door handles that are flush to the body an are supposed to pop out when you press the keyfob to unlock it, so there's not even a handle to hold or pull on. Luckily the recovery truck driver knew what he was doing and was able to get some power into it, open it but then, how do you drive it on to the truck? Has to be winched on and taken to one of the few UK dealers (London and Manchester I think) for repair. Have to say he was able to deal with it, as he had had several before, he wasn't impressed, reconed they were mainly bought by big companies as a tax dodge, eco vehicles and all that, give me simple and straight forward every time.
You could always record the 5 pot sound and play it through the stereo as you drive down the road, maybe fit some outside speakers for pedestrians and the like and stick a "quattro" badge on the boot
I'd gladly run an electric car as my daily. Cheap quiet, easy to drive etc.
There are plenty of cars out there where you're well in the s*&t if t he battery dies completely.
The main issue is by the time the rest of us can afford one there will be a huge tax on electricity for them to fill up the government piggy bank so they won't be cheaper.
Not sure I'd want one yet for the weekend blast and the UK charging infrastructure needs improving but that will come.
