    Bset way forward?

    Hello
I have a S2, '91 3B, virtually stock, with only very minor changes, steering wheel (still have original wheel, virtually unused), gear knob, cup holders, spare wheel cover, clear front side light lenses fitted (I still have the original orange ones), updated AC gas.

The car has done in excess of 200,000 miles, and I have owned it since May 1991, it was first registered February 1991. It is currently on SORN, and has been off the road in excess of 10 years. I have full service history and records of many replacement parts (gearbox etc.). I have also have quite a few spares, new Samco hoses, new bottom door trims, wiring looms (used), etc. It has just been fitted with 4 new Goodyear tyres. Some of the wiring in the engine bay has been "eaten", so the motor does not fire! The bodywork is generally good, There is some rust to the left front wing, and I have a used replacement that is in a better condition. The interior is not leather, and all seats are in good condition too.

Following a recent check, the motor is not seized.

I do not have the time and the expertise to bring this car back to life on my own, and as it is virtually complete, I don't want to start breaking it for parts (don't have expertise for doing that anyway)

Reluctantly, the time has come to move on , What should I do?

    All sensible ideas considered

I think you have 3 basic choices.

    1) sell as is. No MOT, no real idea as to actual condition. Attains lowest price. Somebody will probably get a bargain and break it...

    2) get one of the many good people around to have a look, spend a limited amount of time and money getting it running and MOTd, then sell for sensible money

    3) same as point 2, except once running, tidy it up nicely, keep it and have an appreciating classic to enjoy yourself...

You're the 2nd owner from new, right?

I know which option I'd take...
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...

This will sell all day long, assuming thats what you mean. Or are you finding it hard to part with it?

Thanks LHD. Yes, first owner was owner of Audi main dealer. Have had it looked at by specialist garage, told needs new sub-frames at least, in addition to sorting wiring loom etc. not sure what costs of sub frames would be (I did not ask) I estimated £6-7K for using garage to refurb, but they said probably more.

          Thanks Audi J.

Yes, very hard to part with, had many great trips and experiences with this car. If sold, really not sure on setting price, and would hope that it went to an enthusiast who could refurb, rather than break up.

The cost of a good refurb can easily exceed this figure but maybe do it for less too, all depends how far you go

Being thoroughly ruthless and detaching all emotion from it I'd say its time to cut and run. Don't spend another penny on it. It's time for some new memories.

Sell this as is for £4000.

Buy a tidy urS6 for the same price thats already sorted with long MOT and running perfectly (they seem to be all the rage these days).

Sit back and enjoy the next 20 years or so.

I would like to add option 4:
Start reading the Forum, spend some TLC on the car and restore it yourself. It doesn't take an expert, just an enthusiast with some good info.
I never ever met someone who said: "boy, am I glad I sold my s2!"
BTW.. Both me and LHD have a 91 coupé similar to yours, for what it's worth

My feeling is you would feel great driving it again after 10 years and it would bring back many great memories when you get behind the wheel again. How many people can say they have owned a S2 basically from new...not many i'd say. Any other classic you might replace it with, i'd imagine could never replicate that feeling.

Subframes are pricey new (think they're still available). Decent used ones do come up for sale or if yours are not too far gone many people have welded/strengthened theirs and had them galvanised/treated so they last a long time (cheeper option). Everything you've said so far sounds like it could be done for less then 5k. No doubt someone on here will have the wiring you need to replace the eaten parts

Good luck with whatever you do. I think we'd all like to see a few photos of your car
