    Porsche - customer service

I wonder if Audi are planning to do this?

Porsche's support for older cars is about as good as it gets. A fried used to only have Porsche work on the car, as they offered a discount for older cars, making then similar in price to a specialist.

I did and no regrets. So so much better in the service department any part you want delivered to your door in 48 hrs + on line parts catalogue for every single part.

Same with BMW. They offer discount labour rates for older cars and the parts availability is excellent. I booked my 1992 E31 850ci in to my local BMW gin palace to see if they could find a climate control fault. They said they would charge me £122 for a diagnostic test and half an hours sorting it out time ( obviously any parts extra ) Anyway the diagnostic test did not reveal the fault. The long and short of it was that they had the car for 4 days and striped most of the dash out of it and eventually found the fault which was a lock sensor (don't ask ! ) when I went to collect it I got a bill for £122 plus the lock sensor and a apology for why it had taken so long. They said it was down to them to fix the fault as the diagnostic should have found the fault in the first place and they could not charge anymore than they quoted. I suppose if you take you car to a large BMW main dealer and they turn round and say we can't find whats wrong with it The s*&t is going to hit the fan big time.
Wonder if I took my S2 into our local Audi gin place i would get the same treatment ?

Are BMW dealers owned by BMW or are they franchised?

All BMW dealers a franchise just like any other make of car or Burger King or KFC. They are either owned by a large motor group lke Sytners or Evane Halshaw or maybe smaller operators with maybe one or two garages but the bottom line is its BMW GB calling the shots ( if you want to keep your franchise that is ) so in short it maybe your name over the door but its the car manufacture in the driving seat !

Very surprising attitude from a 'Premiere' manufacturer...Wonder why this is?
