Just to throw gasoline on the fire,
, *MY* guess is would be if you had a pristine unmolested red RS2 you could sell it for good money and with that money, buy an S2 avant (or B4 Audi 80 avant) and then use the remaining money to build the same track "beast" and still end up with a bit of cash left over. Bonus: a rare RS2 would not have had to die in the process.
Again, IMO.

A car is nothing more than a collection of components... This particular collection of components bares limited relation to the original collection of components put together by the original component manufacturer....
Motorsport, or modifying cars has always pushed opinions, the David Sutton quattros of the early eighties shared more commonality with the Sutton run Mk2 Ford Escorts from the decade before than they did with a production line Ur quattro...
The bottom line is, it's a car the owner is proud of, (even if some of us would prefer more originality), is happy with, and enjoys. And that is far better than an unloved, parted out, weighed in empty shell...85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep

I'm on the other side of the fence on these type of things. In my opinion as long as there is 1 stock tidy boring rs2 in the world then that's enough. Why keep more? Maybe his example was tired and needed lots of money spent to bring it back to show room condition so he spent that money on better things and made a nice car. He clearly didn't want to keep his car stock and boring.Just to throw gasoline on the fire,

I have had the same issue with some urq owners before. I was chatting to 2 of them and telling them I had a 10vt urq I was building as a road legal track car with a 20vt and cage etc. Basicly a properly sorted car. One guy walked away half way through the conversation and the other guy said he walked away because he hated people "destroying" good cars. This was an odd thing for me but I suppose everyone is entitled to an opinion even if it's wrong. Horses for courses.....

Asking prices for original or close to original condition RS2s have skyrocketed lately, much like the contemporary Porsche 964s.
On the German sites, the most expensive ones (low mileage, original) are listed at 75.000 Euro. That is more then 70% more than what they cost new back in 1994 (approx 100.000DM/43.000 Euro). http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/se...e&pageNumber=2
Not surprising really.
From a monetary/investment point of view, an original condition RS2 is not the wisest starting point for big modifications. Unless one never plan to sell the car, of course.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)

He could have done the exact same thing starting with a base B4 Audi avant and left a real RS2 alone and unmolested.
