    Jacking points?

Random question - I was under my car recently (2.8 cabrio) and found two threaded studs sticking out, looking like something should have been bolted to them

Done some googling, and it looks like there are two steel 'u' sections which attach to the bottom of the car, I presume as jacking points? (this picture from irishs2's car shows them nicely - hope you don't mind me using it!)

Obviously mine have gone missing - or was my car never built with them? Am I right about their purpose?

I think they're meant to stop the car bottoming out too far and damaging the cats

they're not jacking points. do not attempt to lift a car using these if you refit them

Also agree. Sacrificial wear members just like the Forumal 1 cars. They list as "U profile for floor plate" PN 4A0253583B for all C4s and some ACOQs. 8A0253583A for RS2, B4s and V6 ACOQs. Item 40 in the diagram below.

Ah , sounds very interesting! They are awfully thick but then I suppose that makes sense...

I guess because my 2.8 FWD has a fairly high mounted cat it doesn't require these. The CQ V6 I presume has a longer gearbox so needs twin cats? Good thing too, I'd have lifted the car on them!

Looks like I'll be sticking with the pads under the sills

What's the reason for not jacking here.......bolts to chassis does it not?

Not strong enough. Think: Oil can. As in pushing the bottom. Click click.

Interesting ..... my MOT man jacked mine up there, didn't seem to do it any harm though. I may educate him next time!

Wouldn't want them to fold over while on a lift!
I imagine that's why it's often a welded double seam used as the lift point. They are not going to fold under the weight of the car

I've got one of mine bent over as I ground it out on a bit of the floor a few years ago...
