    While I'm at it ....

So doing the rs2 upgrade thing on the coupe, and doing a cambelt change etc while in there , wondered wether while I'm at it and the car is in bits I should change clutch that's been sitting on the shelf for 3 years , as I'm pretty sure it needs doing. If I hoist the engine forward and out I can leave gearbox in situ and clean engine etc and bay while it's out , more work but deffo don't wanna get it all back together and giving it more beans and the clutch throws it's hand in.... is it easier engine out to do clutch ? Rather than gearbox out ..

Definitely put in a new Sachs clutch kit that comes with a new bearing.

Ask me why I feel so definite about this.

Water pump obviously with the timing belt.

How new is the cam timing sensor ? Just saying...........

May be expensive now, but even more so on all fronts when one of these items you're 'having' to do now fails later.

Clean / redo 'everything' now while access is good.

      Just sayin...........

Worth it when you drive it again.

      Others will suggest other items..............

I always found it easier to take the engine/box out in one go, do everything then put back in

I'd agree, having taken the engine out on numerous occassions, I now remove the box with it. Far easier than attempting the bell hounsing bolts in situ and really opens up the whole bay for doing jobs or cleaning it.

Ok as a guesstimate what would the box and engine weigh together ?

Ah ok , I know the box does look pretty big n heavy !! But easily lifted with a 1 ton hoist then .

Yes, no problem with a standard engine hoist.

Check out the steering rack while the engines out too, I swapped mine because it was weepy only to find out after the engine was refitted that the new one was worse

I agree - engine & box together. I just changed by clutch by removing the box alone - never again.
Fully dressed engine & gearbox assembly is around 280kg

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but my question is somewhat related.

If anyone has taken the engine and box 'combo' out the front of an S2 and and a UrS6, which car do you think is the more difficult / more involved ?

                            Just curious.

                            Thanks.

It's always easier to drop it out the bottom.
Remove subframe, disconnect everything and then just lower the lot down in one go, rather than trying to shoehorn it up and out the front at an angle.
