    Recommend me a decent multimeter

Mine just died. Can anyone recommend a decent quality (accurate) basic DMM?

I bought one of the Fluke 17B+ meters after seeing AVE's vijeo, really cant fault it for the money. Vs my Fluke 175 it was a bargain.

Of the cheap China brands take a look at the UNI-T UT61E, really nice little meter and for some tasks i actually prefer it over the Flukes.

I guess it really depends on what you want it for as i have half a dozen different meters and they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I just seem to acquire them by accident (FOC) - latest is an Extech EX330, no idea if its any good, haven't even checked out what it can do.

I would say go with Fluke - I have had mine for almost 25 years, and it still works perfectly.

Any Fluke that covers the ranges of interest, or Hewlett Packard or Keithley. All three are top end pro kit, but if you just want to measure volts and resistance around the car, pick a low end s/hand example of the above from Ebay. They are all digital, but older analog meters such as Avo and GEC Selectest are still usuable and are in some ways better, as it's easier to spot trends with an analog dial.

Bear in mind that most digital types have lower max voltage range (2Kv) and are limited to a 2amp max current range, whereas Avo and Selectest usually have a 10 amp range, as well as ac current. However, you can get shunts to increase that on the better quality meters.

Have several here in the lab, but still use an old Fluke 8021B a lot of the time. Old, but quality and often < 20 ukp...
