Outdoor temperature in original cluster?

I seem to remember once seeing (or possibly owning when I had the RS2) an original instrument cluster with outside temperature display in the bottom center window, just above the steering colum and below the 9 light for oil / battert / etc.

First of all - do I remember this correctly?

And if I do - has anyone installed this into their car even though it wasn't there original? I live above the arctic circle and it is nice to know the temperature for when you can expect ice on the roads, and I don't want an aftermarked, because I think they are dog ugly.
