    I want to import a B4 avant...

Hello fellow Audi addicts... I thought I'd post a thread here as I figure you all might have a better than I do since I'm in the USA and all, but the time is almost right to be able to legally import a B4 Avant. So i'm looking for info on average cost of an S2 avant (looking for LHD).

I'm leaning more towards just buying an 80 avant for cheap then converting it to S2 spec once it's here. The motor, trans, and quattro conversion are all easy for me and it would save me a good bit of money. I suppose it depends on what I find in the next couple of years though. Anyone have any suggestions on where to look (once again, for left drive vehicles)? I've been mostly looking at mobile.de

    Thanks!

And for something to look at, here's my 200 20v Avant.

B4 = 1993 Model year. First ones were built in August 1992. So 1992 + 25 year rule = yup. 2017. So you need an August 1992 build VIN'd 80 quattro avant to import one in August 2017.

    Just checking your math.

I'll probably wait a couple of years and import a '94. I wasn't sure when they started producing the B4 avant, pretty sure we had '92 sedans here. Figure I'd start doing my research and keeping an eye out though...

Found a TDI with some awfully nice recaros for cheap, but won't be legal for another couple of years...

            Autoscout24.de
            Autoscout24.eu
Blocket.se (I dare to say Sweden has the highest density of fast/special/american muscle vehicles in Europe. Cars also seem to be cheaper in general than down here. So it's worth a look.)
And of course good old Ebay.de

Importing a Quattro, bringing it to full S2 spec and save money on it? Sound like a dream to me. Separate parts are way more expensive than the whole car. Unless you already have a stash somewhere.

I imagine it will end up costing a similar amount to what the s2 would cost, but it's a smaller initial investment. Bumpers and lights won't be too bad, and I'll insist on an 80 with nice sport seats. Other than that I'd be doing custom brakes and suspension and turbo setup anyways. And I do have a lot of assorted 5 cylinder parts from my other projects. Shoot, I bought a complete AAN swap recently for $800

if you buy an 80 avant and make it to the specs of s2 it will never go for a price of real s2.
if your looking for investment i would go for real one if you want to trash and cut the body it will be wise not to destroy real s2 and go for some quattro.

Depends on how far you wanna go towards the original. A quattro with a 20VT may be a lot like an S2, but misses the wheel hubs, dash, interior trim, brakes and bumpers just to name a few. Those are pretty expensive parts to buy second hand and then ship to the US..
So I don't think you'll end up spending less. But the process can be fun. I've spend way more on my cars than I'll ever get from selling them, but no regrets. (most of the time)

Not an investment, I want a driver. And don't intend on cutting anything up, although 07k swap is on my mind. From what I've found Quattro swap is bolt up. I could buy new carbon trim, I have a good sport wheel. Would do 5 lug swap with parts available here... Really front bumper and headlights would be the only thing I'd be looking at importing. I'd want to upgrade the intercooler on an s2 anyways and I'd definitely be swapping some Porsche calipers on.

I've been collecting B4 S2Avant/RS2 suspension parts for years. Just looking for a suitable B4 sedan or an Avant from overseas now.

I figure I'll just splurge for KW coilovers and get a decent rear sway bat kit for a B5. New bushings and upgraded strut mounts and I imagine I'll be plenty happy with the suspension

More or less I am in one thoughts with rxl, if you are doing such step, take original S2. It will be worth it and the hassle will be 2x smaller. I know that hi standard replicas can be made, but think twice if it worth it.

Gents, don't forget that we're limited to >25 yr old to import into the Land of the Free and I doubt that we'll ever have a large number of B4 Avants. I'm sure there will be value to a real stock/OEM+ S2 Avant but there are also people who'd change everything and care more about the sum of the parts.
